Yes! This this this. You don’t owe anyone an explanation for your personal choices.

NGL, all of my assets are set to go to my son when I die. He’s the beneficiary on everything. If I get married again, I’m honestly not sure if that will change.

💯 not answering the door, in my opinion, is the real life equivalent of “block and delete.” No wasting our precious time (or risking our safety) dealing with someone who should not be at my house.

Totally agree! The risk is so high. I’m in a good position in life and my focus is on my and my son’s future. I’m not jeopardizing it for a man.

I don’t know much about them specifically, and I don’t know if he is as successful as she is. But as a successful woman myself, I really debate the merits of getting married again. As a successful independent person, it doesn’t make much sense to me to put all that into jeopardy for someone else.

Yep, avoid cops and military. I would also say related positions such as security. Those guys think they’re cops lol!

I think this is difficult because people don’t have control over health problems (some, yes, but not all.) I would say, consider how their medical problems could potentially affect your life and decide if those effects are acceptable to you.

I love the way that you summarize this using the term magic words. I wasted so much time in two separate narcissistic relationships, falsely believing that if I could just say the magic words, they would get it, and everything would be amazing. I know now how wrong I was about that.

Last year, I did all the wifey things! Cooked V day dinner, decorated, bought gifts. He showed up with nothing. Not even a card. Was unimpressed by the decorations. Almost seemed resentful that I was doing something nice for him. Got mad that I got him gifts when he’s broke and can’t buy me anything. It all culminated in him implying I’m a whore because I was on birth control before I met him. 🤡🤡🤡 it ended shortly thereafter.

Story time from the past: LVM broke up with me (first time anybody had ended it with me.) he was very cold about it, ghosted. Finally officially broke up with me. About a week later, I sent him paragraphs and paragraphs apologizing but acknowledging that I knew we wouldn’t get back together. (God I feel pathetic admitting all this.) Anyway, a week later I get a cold response and basically him informing me that I have a lot to work on, etc. Okay. I did not reply. I moved on with my life. I believ…

So I’m sure this will seem weird, but this bothers me. I don’t want to take his last name, because his ex wife still uses his last name. It makes me feel like he’s building a harem. This was so well written and insightful! I have wanted botox FOREVER. I have slowly been moving toward deciding to get it. But now I’m reconsidering it. I’m not in denial about my motivations (or am i?) it would make me feel better about what I see in the mirror (maybe), but at the same time, it’s all based on how others see me as well. I’m trying to get rid of that frown line (between my eyebrows), but why? It really is oppressive and sad.

You want to know the sad part? I recently dated a guy who is the exact opposite of your first paragraph. Can you imagine how excited I was to find someone like that!? Well of course he quickly revealed himself to be a low value man. He would make comments such as, “You should grow your hair out like hers.” “You have such small lips.” Also became defensive when I out right asked him if he was actually attracted to me. Thank you for pointing this could’ve turned abusive. I’m not trying to jump to conclusions but this overall pattern of behavior seems like more to me than simply “poor boundaries.”
/r/FemaleDatingStrategy27/06/20 06:16 AM
19

Thank you for pointing this out, because it seemed really off in the moment. How did he go from complete denial and defensiveness to an expert communicator who completely understood my perspective within the span of a few minutes?
/r/FemaleDatingStrategy27/06/20 06:07 AM
23

Ooh this reminds me of the infamous male line: “I cannot just have sex with anyone! We have to have a connection!” Translation: I’ll have sex with anyone willing, but give me all the brownie points for claiming I’m not like other guys. Look how sensitive I am! I’m not a dog like the rest.
/r/FemaleDatingStrategy27/06/20 06:05 AM

Omg. He sounds more and more like this guy. How did the relationship play out?
/r/FemaleDatingStrategy27/06/20 04:38 AM
18

Yes! I am annoyed with myself for letting things go as far as they did. He trampled my boundaries. Instead of listening to my gut, I kept making excuses for him, under the misguided assumption that it was a misunderstanding. But it wasn’t. His actions were not respectful. That means he didn’t respect me. There’s no getting around that. It’s a punch in the gut to grasp that, but it’s true.
/r/FemaleDatingStrategy27/06/20 03:51 AM
7

Thank you so much! I totally understand what you’re saying about your friend. At some point, it just becomes disrespectful. Is this a male thing? I was taught no means no, and I respect that. I can’t imagine any scenario where I keep hammering a person who has told me no. It blows my mind, but it is totally normal to some people! I’m sure your friend feels totally justified because “he’s right” (about who to vote for.) It doesn’t matter if he’s “right.” You said no. Enough!

Serious question: what do you make of it if your boyfriend says another girl is pretty? We were watching TV and he made a comment about someone on a reality show, “She’s pretty but she seems like a bitch.” At the time, I felt really confused. Something about it bothered me but I figured it was me being insecure. Tonight (weeks later), I realized, I would never say the opposite. “That guy is hot but he seems like a dick.” Just feels disrespectful to me to say something like that to a partner. Am …

I'm not the person you're talking to, but having too much pubic hair on the lower area is actually dirtier because things get in it, such as period blood, urine etc. I don't think that hair itself is dirty, wrong, or gross. But in my experience, things get caught in it when it's too long. I also just trim for the most part. Obviously showering regularly takes care of it, but I prefer not to have to deal with it at all. That's my perspective; and people can do whatever they want with their hair a…

/r/FemaleDatingStrategy14/05/20 05:23 PM

Marriage doesn't equal planned. Out of wedlock doesn't equal unplanned. But if you're assuming it's unplanned, then I get what you're saying (that he's irresponsible.)
/r/FemaleDatingStrategy14/05/20 04:45 AM

I'm not sure what the "out of wedlock" has to do with anything. I can assure you that my ex-bf, who had kids with his ex-wife previously, was just as LV as any other loser.

/r/FemaleDatingStrategy07/05/20 11:04 PM

I don't necessarily agree with this. The same man can treat two women very differently. Not to say that changes his value, or that it's the woman fault in any way. But I've witnessed this firsthand. Lots of guys "aren't ready" to marry their forever girlfriend, yet they end up married to a different woman a year later. 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

/r/FemaleDatingStrategy07/05/20 05:16 PM

I agree with this advice. I don't think it's wise to enter into a relationship until you're 100% in a good situation. If OP is able to live independently (not in state housing), then a LVM who happens to have a little more money than her isn't going to appeal to her. It's best to be in there best possible personal situation to clearly see the value that a man brings to the table.

I never verbalized this to my toxic ex, but him living on his own was an absolute must before I would consider living with him. (This never ended up happening anyway, us living together.) I needed to witness firsthand that he could handle the responsibility of having his own place. I didn't want to end up as his second Mommy, having him go straight from his family's house into my home.

I love that you pointed this out. You are so right. Just think about anytime a woman says she doesn’t like porn. Or doesn’t want her boyfriend to go to a strip club. People will tear her apart and call her insecure. Having standards is looked down upon for women because then men would actually have to try.

Thank you so much for posting this! You really broke this down beautifully. I never realized how much my anxiety held me back from standing up for myself. Now that I'm getting it under control, I've noticed at least three different times when I've been able to say what I wanted to say without any fear. It feels so good. Your rebuttals are awesome and I'll be adding them to my arsenal. I think my newfound standing up for myself ultimately led to the demise of my LV relationship. He said I was "al…

Let me share a little story with you. I meet a LVM and I was a pick me. This was before I knew anything about FDS. I was in a bad state and clung to him, despite his lies, disrespect, and narcissism. Fast forward to last weekend, my second time breaking up with him. I'm thinking all three of those things and missing him tonight, despite everything he did to me. Guess what? I just wasted a year and a half on this guy. Don't be like me. Be better than me.

I totally get you wanting to confront him, because you have hope that this is all a misunderstanding and that if you say the right words, he'll understand and change. It's not going to happen. Legitimate misunderstandings happen, but what you're describing is a pattern of disrespect. I'm not saying you should keep quiet. Standing up for yourself is important. Just don't do it with the intention of him actually caring and changing. If he's so disrespectful after only month, I hate to think how he…

Oh my goodness!!!! My ex was literally lying about the money thing (that I mentioned above in amount comment) WHILE it was happening. We were arguing about his inappropriate boundaries with his ex. He indignantly (I think he may have even cried) and passionately insisted that he's changed. Something told me to ask to look at his phone (something I'd never done before or asked to do), and he refused at first. I challenged him with, "Well if you're telling the truth, you can easily clear yourself …
/r/FemaleDatingStrategy13/03/20 01:14 AM

I 100% agree. Even when I tried to "work with" him and explain to him that lying is way more damaging than telling me the truth (even if it's something that he thinks I don't want to hear), it ultimately changed nothing in his behavior. It really highlighted his lack of respect for me. I also can't stand the lying for no reason BS. To me, it was the ultimate form of crazy-making.

Exactly! The therapist was asking me how I can avoid ending up with another narcissist, and I had a very detailed answer that included many points, including no more second chances. Then she said that humans will always fall short, blah blah blah. My friend also kept saying things like, "I knows I'm not perfect, so I can't expect him to be." Don't tell him anything. Worry only about your safety. Do your best to get things in order beforehand, but if that's not possible, don't stress. Leave when he's away. Don't worry about the cats, if it jeopardizes your own safety or prolongs your exposure to his abuse. You are so strong. Focus on getting yourself to safety and fuck everything else. Don't even start to consider him or his "feelings." Just think about you and your own peace of mind.

This is wonderful. I was just thinking about how I was helping my ex financially. (Bank with zero interest loan! At least I got paid back...) And also for insisting to buy him new breaks for his car because he's both too financially irresponsible to afford them and generally too irresponsible to not stop driving a car that is literally too dangerous to be on the road. This was extremely relevant. Thank you so much for your kind words. I responded to someone else about meeting with a therapist who I feel did not understand. That's exactly what you described with outsiders gaslighting you! I actually used the word narcissistic. I told her I keep dating narcissists. I appreciate your feedback. In my defense, I did try to get help after the breakup. I met with a therapist but I didn't feel like she was understanding or taking my concerns seriously. I'm currently with a new therapist but we have not even begun to touch on my issues with men. I've been having a lot of stressful events going on lately, which we've been addressing. Should the mom go and have a deep discussion with the child about why she can’t have the cookie? I get that my comparison is not 100%, but if the woman’s answer to her boyfriend is no and he is…

I had a similar situation a few years back. I broke it off with a guy and blocked him immediately. Later I realized I had a sentimental item. I felt terrible about it and began driving myself nuts about how I could return it to him. Eventually I figured, if he really wanted it back, then he could've figured it out. He was completely passive during the relationship, which is why it failed. I was still catering to his total paralysis and passivity even after ending it. Nope.

I'm not sure since I don't know the history of your relationship, but whenever I hear about guys making half assed commitments, it makes me think he's low value and putting in minimal effort. For example, if he says, "I like you, so I'm not interested in seeing anybody else," it almost sounds like a manipulative way of being exclusive without actually putting in the effort. Who wouldn't want to hear that, but is he by default expecting you to follow suit? If he's so interested, why not take that…

This is bizarre. It's like he's doing you a favor by agreeing to call or something. You've already mutually discussed this. Why is he asking? I agree with the others. I wouldn't even respond. He's making it too difficult.

I started dating again right away, but that decision wasn't coming from a healthy place. I was terrified of being alone after being with my ex since age 16. I feel that I was really truly over my ex probably 3 years after the divorce. I really think there's no right answer. Divorce is so rough. It takes a big toll, especially when the relationship was abusive. You have so much healing to do. Try your best to focus on yourself, your friends, your family, and your own best interests for now. Even …

I agree. So many times, men say no with both their actions and words, and yet we continue to beg.
/r/FemaleDatingStrategy07/02/20 08:10 PM
21

I don't think you owe him anything. However, if breaking up in person is one of your values, then do it. Here's what I am hearing: he's dishonest, you're not overly attached, you're already stressed with other things, and now this loser is another issue you have to deal with. Personally, I don't care how somebody breaks up with me. I just prefer the least amount of time wasting on their part.
/r/FemaleDatingStrategy07/02/20 04:17 AM

Who says you have to do it in person? Why stress yourself out over a liar?

One of the main rules here is to not explain expectations to men. If you do that, it's easy for them to fake it until they get what they want.

Congratulations!!! I'm so happy for you.

I actually think she shouldn't have sent the second part. It's not her job to be his dating coach. If he can't figure out that she wants a proper date, he's a lost cause.

I'm not sure of official guidelines, but here are some suggestions: Never text first Don't exhaust topics you could discuss on a date Don't text back and forth all day long Someone on another thread stated that she doesn't reply to texts after 9. This is brilliant!

It's easy to forget all the bad and why we ended a relationship when we become nostalgic or start missing an ex. Make a list (a very detailed list) of why you broke up and pull it out whenever you feel bad about ending things or if you get the urge to reach out to him.

I think daily texting is okay, just to maintain contact leading up to the date. I wouldn't be texting him all day though. Maybe just exchange a few. Also I don't initiate texts but will respond.

So I'm ready to get downvoted to hell, but I hate your list. It panders to men. There's nothing wrong with wanting to improve your health and appearance, but it should be (1) self-motivated and (2) within the realm of what YOU like. It shouldn't be with the intention of attracting a man. I'm getting a pixie cut this weekend and can't wait to piss off men by offending them by existing with my short hair.

I like that advice! I don't think it's the same both ways though because many women need oral to reach orgasm, which is not the case for men.
/r/FemaleDatingStrategy22/01/20 10:23 PM
37

Yeah, I don't like that mindset at all. Sounds like he's letting you know from the very beginning not to expect much from him. Sounds LV. In my opinion, it doesn't have to be "fancy," but the guy needs to be putting in effort. His explanation sounds lazy and like a major turn off. Next.
/r/FemaleDatingStrategy22/01/20 08:06 PM

I believe the general FDS advice is no first coffee dates and no first drink dates. However, it also depends on your own preferences, and the man's reaction of you suggest dinner instead.

/r/FemaleDatingStrategy22/01/20 03:38 AM

I think honesty is important in a friendship. I'm not saying you should tell her to leave him, but you could point out that she deserves (at least) an equal partner. Sometimes people forget that they have options and just settle for whatever they have right now.
/r/FemaleDatingStrategy21/01/20 11:23 PM
36

To me, a HVW is essentially the same thing has a HVM. A HVW is respectful, respectable, and has her life in order. She's financially independent, responsible, and not in need of a man.
/r/FemaleDatingStrategy21/01/20 06:54 PM
37

I'm curious, how did he explain why he was breaking up? I understand that essentially it was a mutual feeling, but I'm curious how he explained that he basically tapped out depth wise?
/r/FemaleDatingStrategy21/01/20 03:04 AM

He's trying to instill false hope. "My family is really successful! And I will be too!" But we don't date potential so..

Oh no, the unofficial "boyfriend." I feel your pain so much. I was "with" a guy like this in the past. He even had the audacity to offer to be my "friendboy" because he wasn't ready to commit. 🙄🙄🙄 He turned out to be a narcissist who I eventually had to get a protection order against. Not saying it's the same with you, but they are both clearly LV. I completely understand the appeal of dating again quickly after being treated like crap. It's amazing to be treated right. But still, don't forget t…

I agree. While the OP's story sounds great on the surface, something about the "dos and don'ts list" threw me off. He could be legitimately helping but I just can't help but feel a little skeptical.

I'm speaking hypothetically and about how it's generally best to handle such situations.
/r/FemaleDatingStrategy17/01/20 03:23 PM

I love your advice! I don't understand the mindset (culturally) that all breakups must be done in person and that the person who is being dumped is owed a thorough, lengthy explanation out of "respect."
/r/FemaleDatingStrategy17/01/20 02:47 PM

I'm fine with ghosting, but I do wonder if it's better than a direct or even indirect no.

And yet she's still single. Go figure
/r/FemaleDatingStrategy17/01/20 05:25 AM

It's unclear to me whether he disclosed that he's a recovering alcoholic, or that he has a family history of alcoholism. If it's the former, be very careful. Addiction is no joke and relapse is part of the cycle of recovery. If it's the latter, then it just seems like a preference and I'm not sure why he revealed it in that way, or really at all. Some people drink while others don't. Doesn't seem like something that needs to be revealed. Either way, why did he invite you to a bar? Seems strange …

Thanks for posting. That sub is so sad. Do many misguided people.

OMG right. The advice there is to figure out why you're jealous. Ummmmmm because my husband is out fucking someone else?!
/r/FemaleDatingStrategy16/01/20 10:37 AM
7

Yes! You're making so much sense. People like to pretend that they messed up when they cheated, but the truth is, they messed up way before that moment. There's always a series of small events leading up to bigger events. I don't think people like to acknowledge and take accountability for how they wind up in these scenarios in the first place.
/r/FemaleDatingStrategy16/01/20 05:52 AM
5

I see what you're saying and maybe I'm misinterpreting what happened and reading into it. However, I can't imagine a scenario where I (as a person in a relationship) would give off vibes to someone else that I'm not. I conduct myself in a very specific way with men when I'm taken. I keep thinking that there's more to the story (specifically HIS story), but I could be wrong.
/r/FemaleDatingStrategy16/01/20 05:28 AM
9

Why doesn't he wear his ring? It just seems like if you're feeling vibes, he's giving something off to indicate that he's available.
/r/FemaleDatingStrategy16/01/20 04:58 AM

I don't see why you can't bring up the topic now. I think however he responds will give you insight into whether he's a Fboi.
/r/FemaleDatingStrategy16/01/20 04:56 AM

Sounds like a narcissist. No real empathy but good at faking it over nonsense.
/r/FemaleDatingStrategy16/01/20 04:48 AM

Nope! She's his mommy

He's definitely a LVM in that case.
/r/FemaleDatingStrategy16/01/20 04:41 AM

He's married

It's sad. She believes that cheating is the norm and inevitable, so it's better to accept it and turn a blind eye, than to demand better and respect yourself.

It seems a lot of people missed the point.

Too risky. She's doing the work for him.
/r/FemaleDatingStrategy15/01/20 04:24 AM

I didn't realize that this was a standard (no cops), but it makes sense. The cop I dated lied about his age, living arrangement, and marital status. Lesson learned.
