He committed a rape. He admitted to that rape to the police. He got off easy because the person who he raped had previously chosen to do with other people what he forced her to do with him?

If this had been a robbery there wouldn't have been an exception made because the person he robbed sometimes gave money to friends.

If it had been an assault he wouldn't have gotten off with probation because the person he beat up sometimes participated in boxing matches.

Why is rape different?

In other words, he confessed, so unless they beat it out of him it's difficult to see why he got such a lenient sentence. Raping a 14 year old? Five to ten seems a fair sentence, but that's years not weeks!

Suppose you were falsely accused of rape. Wouldn't you "admit it" if it was the only way to avoid the threat of decades-long prison sentence?

I don't know what happened but it's refreshing to see a female judge show some "calm-thinking" in the face of a rape accusation/conviction, especially given today's definitions of rape. (As opposed to simply rushing to convict because of how repugnant the nature of the crime is, without first looking at evidence to see if the accusation has merit or if there are mitigating factors).
