Very curious

men have better spatial abilities than women, on average, and women have better verbal abilities. In gay men and lesbians, however, these differences are reversed: Lesbians have spatial abilities comparable to those of straight men, and gay men have verbal abilities comparable to those of straight women (see here). Gay men and women are subjected to essentially the same socialization influences as their same-sex, straight peers. It seems unlikely, therefore, that the reversal of the usual pattern of aptitudes is due to socialization. More plausibly, other factors, such as prenatal hormonal exposure, are the primary cause.

The article is quite good and balanced. It relies on facts and defends fects over sexism.... Until it quotes a sexist and makes no remark about it: what the article quoted-

There are more men at the top because women are more intelligent, and thus fewer women are willing to work 80 hours a week and sacrifice everything else.

As if men have an option and women do not encourage the behaviour in males.

if there were strong and pervasive bias, we would presumably have unambiguous evidence of it by now.

Generally a really good article pointing out the innate differences between male and female brains. As with the great Harald Eia documentary, it points out how lesbian women and gay men have complimentary sex brains to a degree. Lesbians are better spatially, gays are better verbally. Larry Summers is identified too. These discussions are also in Steve Pinker's book, and also that by Roy F. Baumeister.

A consistent finding, which has remained surprisingly stable across many generations, is that more women than men prefer to work with people than to work with things or abstract rules, whereas more men than women prefer to work with the things or rules—they prefer "people-free zones," as Camille Paglia put it. It is unlikely that this sex difference is purely a product of socialization.

Seems to me that preference, rather than ability, is the determiner. An innate preference would lead you down some paths and not others, then you would acquire domain specific skills. A sort of self socialization.

As for all this stuff about women in STEM fields, and this is purely anecdotal, but I get the impression that an unusual number of X-ray crystallographers are women. Anyone else noticed this?

"Big Bang Theory" only started airing in 2007. It's going to take a few more years before the "lulz, science is kewl now" girls make it through their masters.

Kind of like the bullshit about "equality in video game development." Women spent the first thirty years laughing and making fun of any men interested in computers, programming, and gaming. Now, only in the last ten years of modern "omg I'm a gamer grrrrrl!" history do they demand to be outright handed an "equal share" of the kingdom they rejected and refused to help build. Roberta Williams earned her legacy, feminists demand it handed to them.
