Most college feminism seems to centre around teenage girls insecurities and fears. If they fail in life, they can't be blamed. It was the big evil men who made it happen. Not the fact they studied a non-commercial degree, didn't bust their asses in jobs... the men did it.

The idea that sexism against men is really just sexism against women that happens to hurt men a bit too is standard feminist theory that should hardly surprise anyone here. Take a look at the FeministFAQ:

Sexism that hurts women is called sexism against women, while sexism that hurts men is called benevolent sexism against women. Of course this makes no more sense than switching it around and saying that all sexism is really just sexism against men, and that sexism that hurts women is really just benevolent sexism against men.

This is the theoretical rationalization for the feminist movement's institutionalized lack of empathy. This is the idea which allows feminists to not care about Teh Menz.

So, to feminists: if you really care about how men suffer under the gender system, stop treating men's sufferring as a mere side-effect of yours.

So, what was the Tender Years Doctrine? Wasn't that where feminists pretty much said "we are the natural caretakers for children" to gain custody? Can't the "patriarchal" notion that women are the natural caretakers for young children be directly attributed to early feminism? Am I missing something?

Edit: that was less related to the topic and more related to what that person was saying in the screen capture. It's amazing how unaware these people are of their own history.

So it's sexism when women don't get free stuff now? I can understand that if actual access to birth control is cut off (i.e. illegal) that it would be an intrusion on someones rights. The idea that it's a rights violation when someone else doesn't have to pay for your crap anymore is laughable. It's a privilege to receive it in the first place and when it goes away it is simply a loss of privilege, and nothing more. If male birth control ever comes into existence I would be happy to pay for it with my own money.

That is the consisent message I get from feminists.

In every gender related social issue women are framed as either the direct or indirect victims. Eg. Men are shamed when they show vulnerability because it's considered feminine, and there is a cultural hatred for the female.

I think the reason why feminism is so popular is because it's the only paradigm that has been routinely used to analyze gender problems. So I think we need to focus on promoting an equalist paradigm to analyze issues like the one Warren Farrell promotes.

Eg. the reason why men are shamed for expressing vulnerability is because it's a deviation from the expected role they have in society. Nothing to do with misogyny.

No. However, the custody issue in question is sexism against both men and women. Women are assumed to be more nurturing and therefore the better caregiver, which is sexist towards women as certainly not all women are this way. Men are assumed to not be very nurturing and are therefore not the better caregiver, which is sexist towards men.

It just so happens that, in this case, the sexism towards women more often than not results in a benefit for women instead of a deficit.

I live in a small college town in the pacific northwest. Recently, a small coffee shop opened up across the street from the convenience store where I buy my cigarettes every morning. It's one of those gross 'bikini coffee' drive-thrus where it is staffed exclusively by attractive women in skimpy clothing who chat/flirt with the patrons while they make their coffee. I glance over at it every time I walk back to my car from the store. I have conflicted feelings about it.

On the one hand, it is a disgusting base appeal to male sexuality designed to sell low-quality coffee to lonely, horny hicks. On the other hand, if there really is a patriarchy, that's what it should look like. In a real Patriarchy, women would be in the coal mines doing all the back breaking menial labor while the men raised our children in our infinite leisure time.

You know how Bill O'Reilly (I think it was him) used "The tide goes in, the tide goes out" as irrefutable proof of the existence of God? That's basically what feminists do with the Patriarchy. Anything and everything is evidence that the Patriarchy exists. The poster you screenshotted used discrimination against men in custody battles to show that the Patriarchy was being sexist against women; other feminists, most notably NOW, have used bogus statistics to argue that mothers are being discriminated against in custody battles... which they attribute to the Patriarchy oppressing women. Completely opposite scenarios, and yet to feminists, it leads to the same conclusion: The Patriarchy is oppressing women.
