I've pointed this out before, but hey, why not?

Feminists: Why is it that when sexism advantages women, it's "benevolent", but when it advantages men, it's just sexism?

The title of this article makes the reader leap to the exact opposite conclusion as the article itself. You assume that the husband showing benevolent sexism leads to an unsatisfied wife. But, if i read it correctly, the studies show that women who expect to be treated with benevolent sexism become less satisfied when they aren't. Well no shit. therefore, its the expectation of benevolent sexism that hurts relationships, make that the title of the article you dipshit Scientific American author or editor.

I think benevolent sexism needs to be defined so people are actually talking about the same thing. Some people think that merely opening the door for a woman is sexism, while others think it's just polite. I think the article sets out a decent definition:

“Benevolent sexism” is the belief that women deserve to be protected and cherished by men, with the implicit understanding that these are perks in exchange for men's general dominance.

This, at least, gives a solid starting point for any discussion about it. I think far too many feminists want to cram anything and everything into the realm of benevolent sexism which makes the term meaningless if every interaction is proof of benevolent sexism.
