What is the consensus on women only swimming sessions?

Lack of context, the pools may not have men-only sessions because no one has asked for them, im not against women having women-only sessions, but im not going to say that if you implement a women only sessions you must also at the same time implement a men only session. If you want a men only session at you're local pool, request one, if they refuse, ask why. Then report back with you're findings and you shall be able to assess whether you're pools are sexist, or simply giving what is requested.

As a lifeguard, I'm curious if these sessions also apply to the staff. Are only female lifeguards around during the women-only sessions? If not, I would think it would defeat the purpose, since lifeguards are constantly watching and judging swimmers.

Honestly , I can understand why women would want their own swimming sessions and I can support it . If the demand was there , they'd probably have men-only swimming sessions .

On the other hand , since men usually want to exclude women so that they can simply be free of having to watch their words or play nice for their benefit , it probably doesn't occur to anybody why this would appeal to men . Everybody is stuck in the mindset that the only reason anybody would want a segregated event is so that one sex can feel safe .

There are other reasons for wanting single-sex spaces that have nothing to do with safety .

There are places you simply do not want to go! I was a lifeguard, RLSSC (Royal Life Saving Society Canada) in my high school days. The guards on duty are not gender restricted, that would be illegal. But guys, these women only hours are by their request. Unless you bring a harpoon & a strong stomach, you don't want to go there.

Most women I know are very self conscious, especially when it comes to exercise (this is why there are women-only gyms you know) and since you're also forced to wear an outfit that shows your legs CONSTANTLY, which is an area that women have a great deal of obsession over...

That's just how I feel about it.

It probably never got brought up with the pool, and you should try and organize something yourself, if that's something you really want to happen. That's most likely how the female session got started.

Here is how I feel: Sometimes it's nice not to have the distraction, and not having to walk around and feel self-conscious. When you're around men, you don't have to think about how you might cause offense, or how you look. When there are women present, there is always that narrative going in the back of your mind, that takes focus away from what should be a relaxing time, between you and the water.

This is also why I don't stay around my SO all the time. I can't stand the constant pressure to be aware of my surroundings, to be responsive, and have attention directed at me and whatnot. I love her company for the most part, but sometimes I just need a few woman-free hours in my life. Women are everywhere, and I feel like they are always competing for my attention. Exercise has always been something that I have used to turn inward.

Anyway, that is just my opinion. Note that it's not because I don't like women, I just get tired of having their presence in mind all the time. Am I wearing my boxers right? Do my stomach bulge too much? Do I look like a slob? Am I so white they think I'm disgusting? Etc. etc.

With men it's just: "Don't give a shit"; jump in the pool.

I would think it would be all about demand. If there is more demand among women for women only swim times they should have more. If there is more demand among men for men only swim times they should have more. Since the pool has four different locations it would seem fairly easy to make it so that at least one of the pools is open to all genders at any given time.

I would like a little more context with this, so perhaps my opinion is minus some information. That being said, if these pools are private, I don't see a problem. This is something where my stance on MRM and politics clash. I feel as though a private business should be allowed to discriminate if they so choose. However, if these are public pools than I think what they are doing is wrong.
