I mean, if i thought telling a girl i wasn't planning on paying for her meal would decrease my chances in her saying yes, then I wouldn't do it at all. At the same time, I would bring enough money for both of us (making sure to go to a place thats cool but not outside my means), and if she knows me pretty well, she'll probably surmise im a broke college student. Therefore, if she offers, I won't turn it down. I mean, I don't like that some girls think its mandatory, but most girls understand. If she does demand it, then she might have just had a shitty time, not liked your company, and is trying to get a free meal out of a guy she'll never want to see again. Thats not exactly nice, but certainly understandable. I wouldn't say inviting someone somewhere would include that you would pay though, thats a bit of a stretch. If I invited a girl to a concert, Id expect her to pay. I always try to go dutch, unless its like a formal date or she didn't bring her wallet. Its somewhat as a test, and at the same time I'd like the girl to see me as a person, not as just a man.

Society rules are: Whoever asks for the date either a) pays for the date or b) discusses going dutch before the date. To do anything else is extremely rude. As to the askee: you do not under any circumstances offer to pay for part of the date during the date, that's rude and assumes the other party cannot afford it. If the askee wishes to go dutch they too should say so before the date because they would not be genuine if they did a fake grab for the check with no real expectation of paying half. I also believe that after the date there is no good reason for the askee not to give some kind of a gift to their date, thank you card or offer to pay for dessert later... something that shows thanks and such.
