I remember seeing that article on FoodForThought. It was... Entertaining. I realized 4 sentences in that the woman had no idea what an actual meaningful relationship with a fellow human being is, so I read the rest as a pitying look into the mind of a socially ill creature. Much more amusing that way.

I've never been good at absorbing information from articles, but I could feel such seething condescension and one of the most blissfully unaware over-inflated collective egos leaping out of each sentence more than the last.

The writer seems like she means well and consciously wants equal rights, and is trying not to sound bigoted in her opinion of men, but she just doesn't realise how wrong what she's saying is. It's like an old-time white man trying to be polite in front of a group of black people. It's like almost politically correct redneck.

If all you did was switch the genders completely this would come off as an insanely bigotted article...oh wait, it still does left in tact. This woman clearly doesnt like men. And the light bulb story wanted to make me throw my monitor off my desk. How tough would it be to change a damn lightbulb? You are the one that is hitting your shin, you are "empowered" fix the damn thing, cuz guess what, if you think the gender roles are switched but still 1950s style, then you as the breadwinner would be in charge of fixing things! Gah

Apparently, these modern empowered wymyn would rather spend $300/hour on therapy, potentially ruin a marriage, and write angry articles on the internet than change a goddamn lightbulb. Were I a feminist, I would hate this article. As I'm not, it's pretty goddamn entertaining.

So, I guess this means we don't need all those programs that continuously talk-up/puff-up girls, and then give them preferential treatment in getting into college? I guess we also don't need all those other programs that force companies to hire women?

In fact, as it is boys/men that are now "oppressed" and "disadvantaged", we probably need to re-enact those old programs, with boys/men as the beneficiaries?

I swear, I just can't understand how they can:

Say that they just want equality
Say that they are disadvantaged, and need biased programs to "level the playing field"
Proudly boast statistics such as these, which clearly show that not only have they been brought up to the level of boys/men, but that the biased/preferential treatment has pushed them past the level of "equality"
STILL claim they are for equality.

It's obvious that equality is not what they want.

I wonder if part of the problem is that we have partitioned off our men’s tasks and you haven’t, because, um, what all married women maybe secretly yearn for is not one husband, but four.

Mr. X: the financial partner. Mr. Y: the feelings guy. Mr. Z: The Brawny paper-towel man. Mr. Q: the cheerful intern.

The problem, of course, is that no one man can possibly be all four of these people.

Huh. So a guy who can manage your money for you, understand every emotional moodswing you have, do everything you expect him to (because of gender roles), and do it with a blank, happy-as-a-drone idiot look on their face.

Sadly enough, the recommendation she gives is to marry the money guy, have kids, and then divorce him.

Reminds me of the "Ten Types of Men" checklist that was going around six months ago...

Predictions and extrapolations that will not come true. If you want to see America's future look at Europe, which embraced feminism harder and faster. Women are returning to the home more than men.
