Guys, do you think it's acceptable to kick someone attacking you in the balls as self defense? Why or why not?

It's acceptable of course, but not a first choice.

Kicking in the crotch isn't as a useful a technique as some might think. In a fight, your attacker is unlikely to stand still square to you with his legs apart, and unless he does your chances of getting a clear shot at his balls are not as good as you might think. If his legs are even slightly together or he turns to one side or the other you'll probably miss your target and just hit the insides of his thighs. Even if you do get a good one in there, it's rarely the knockout some think it will be.

Personally, I prefer the eyes or neck. There are much harder to defend adequately without training and can be struck very effectively from closer range. They also have the advantage of producing far more reliable and spectacular results.

If someone is attacking me the first thing I'd do is kick them in the balls (and I'm a guy and full well know the pain). Why? Because they are attacking me, seriously WTF why is someone attacking me, I'm friendly to everyone.

If you are assaulted it's your right to defend yourself within the means of the law applicable to your current location. I've not heard of any place that has banned or has laws against hitting the attacker's groin so you should be ok*

*the caveat here is that there is a chance that by hitting the groin you can seriously injure or even kill that person. It will be then up tho the court/jury to decide if the reaction was out of proportion.

I live in a red state where conceal carry licenses are easy to get. If it's a real attack, and not just a game with friends, I'm going to skip kicking you anywhere and just shoot you.

Attack adrenaline may prevent pain from a groin kick, but it won't keep you alive with some well placed bullet holes.

Depends on what you mean with "attacking". Feminists see everything as an "attack", so in her view it's easy to "justify" kicking someone in the balls.

That said, a kick -besides the knock out- can cause permanent damage. Your defense should be proportional.

If they're physically attacking you, then go for it I guess. I'd go for the neck though, you've got the larynx and carotid arteries, and people generally don't think to protect it the way they do their balls. It's just a bonus that it's seen as more acceptable in society than going for a nutshot.

Legally speaking, everyone has a right to self-defense and a limited [right of defense of property], in America and many other countries. So legally, you are allowed to do so in self-defense.

I believe the bigger issue with this is when it is done outside of self-defense, for comical reasons.

A legitimate attack? Of course. However, a kick to the balls in an adrenaline filled fight or flight moment will only serve to piss your attacker off. Sure, it'll hurt later, but it could be the difference between getting mugged and getting murdered. You're better off learning to properly defend yourself.

never. I would never intentionally kick a man in the balls. 1, because it's easy to grab a kick and throw you on your ass. a punch in the throat is much more effective. and 2, it could cause sterility. I think it's wrong to potentially sterilize someone for attacking me ( unless he is a huge douchebag with an IQ of 79.)

It depends on how much of an unprovoked attack it is. A mugger is fair game, for instance. But if the fight is the result of a somehow mutual escalation (like most bar fights are), even if the other one was more aggressive, I wouldn't consider it acceptable.
