I've been a long time lurker and have never gotten into any disputes with feminists. Last night, my friend posted on FB about how awful and terrible Tosh was for making jokes about the topic of rape. I made it very clear that I did not support rape in any way, but I was arguing that all speech should be protected, especially offensive ones. Yet, over time it became obvious to me that the woman I was arguing with was only interested in limiting speech that was offensive their movement. Once I made this connection, I knew there was no way I would ever convince her about Constitutional rights because she was too self involved in her a a specific movement. To me, this was a scary realization about how damaging this kind of thinking is.
