The statement at the end is the most telling.

It is downright sociopathic. This is not healthy behavior. It's not feminine. It's crazy. You don't manipulate or approve or deny your partner's other relationships. Feeling the need to do that is either a dysfunction in the individual, or a sign that there is one in the relationship. Everything written about in the article, though I've seen it accepted and cited as "normal" behavior for women, would be considered to fall into the category of "controlling" and "isolating" that is cited by every domestic abuse shelter's website as being a precursor to life-threatening physical abuse.

The sad thing is, I've seen my friends exhibit multiple aspects of the behavior discussed in the article. I've lost friends due to arguments that began with me pointing out the dysfunction inherent in deliberate or even accidental (as a side effect of other manipulative behavior) sabotage of one's husband or boyfriend's friendships. I've listened to girls at work list off loads of bullshit made-up reasons why they think they have to do this. I've learned not to bother trying to weigh in on those discussions. It gets me into trouble every time. :/

Lower ranking males are tolerated if they’re useful. Pity this puts them at risk of being placed on the chopping block if they learn “too much.”

I have a friend whose wife apparently approves of me (and she doesn't approve of much). My hunch is that she believes I will act in the role of policewoman because I'm gay. What she doesn't know is that among her husband's friends I am probably the loudest voice encouraging him to stand up for himself (which he typically does not do, unfortunately).

I don't want to generalize, but I've been with a few girls who hated just about every one of my friends and bitched everytime I chose to go out with them for a guy's night out rather than sit in the house trapped with her on the couch watching TV.

They always had friends coming into the relationship but started to neglect them more and more until I was the only one keeping their social meter high. And how dare I not do the same thing with my friends, right?
