I don't browse Men's Rights subreddit as much as I used to, and primarily because I feel that it's stagnating. There's lots of talk about a few subjects, but most of the thoughts are hashed and rehashed. We're all aware of the problems that exist, but there's not a lot of talk about what we can actually do to stop these things or change the culture around us. /MR has 35k subscribers, if not even a third, 10k, were to all donate $25 into one pot, that would be $250k, and surely we could change the world with that, even if in just a small way. A few small, initial successes will get the ball rolling, and help attract more donations that could turn /MR into an effective activist movement. Right now there's not a lot of political power, so what can we do to build? Here are some ideas about ways that /MR could get a project started:

  • Start a legal defense fund that focuses on getting effective defense for falsely accused rapists
  • Job placement program for recently released convicts. These exist, but surely we could do it better.
  • Prize-based incentives for research into male depression, male birth control, etc.
  • Scholarship organization for men
  • Ad campaign demonstrating the horrors of circumcision
  • College-focused support group for men gaining entry into typically-female professions

Some of these ideas are more or less effective than others, but all of them are what I would consider components of a successful movement. What ideas do you have? And how exactly could we implement these programs? Some more things to consider:

  • How would we pick a leader?
  • How would we decide on an issue to focus on?
  • Where would we found our project?
  • Will the focus be local, national, or international?

Answering these questions will help us move forward into greater social relevance.
