Parenting percentage bill going to the House floor. HF322 would change current law to a presumption of joint legal and joint physical custody with a minimum of 45.1 percent of parenting time for each parent. A father is currently entitled to receive 25 percent of parenting time.

This looks like as step in the right direction. If one parent or the other is clearly a bad choice for shared custody, it'll be obvious. It should be assumed that either parent has a decent chance of custody anyway. Though the sponsor's argument about single parents being correlated to such negative life outcomes bothers me a little bit.

Rep. Jean Wagenius said, "I’m very troubled by changing the standard we have in the state which is in the best interest in the child, to essentially moving to a parent standard which is the best interest of the parent. I think we are taking a huge expensive road that is not good for children, either."

Because using children as leverage and a weapon is so in the best interest of the child.
