When I lived in the Finger Lakes region I was dating this girl, god bless her heart, who tripped coming through the front door of our apartment building and managed to bash her cheek against the stairs. It not only bruised badly, but it also welted up enough to close her eye. We both joked that people would think I punched her, and we both had a few good laughs at her (clumsy) expense and reminisced about our past blunders (like the time I took a piss in the dark not realizing the toilet seat was down).

It wasn't funny anymore when, by the end of that week, she'd been approached by 3 social workers and a police officer, numerous rumors about our "violent relationship" had spread around town, and I'd been threatened to have "my teeth knocked" out by some white knight faggots. It was a small town and things became very uncomfortable, very fast, and stayed uncomfortable for a while afterward.

I had been dating this one girl for around 4 months when she hurt her ankle (her dog got underfoot on the stairs). She wasn't sure if it was sprained or broken, but called me to see if I could drive her to the ER. No problem.

I get to her place, make a big bag of ice, and drive her to the hospital. I'm there in the waiting room with her, yer ankle outstretched on my lap and the ice on her ankle... she had also banged up her ribs a bit and it hurt her to lean forward to hold the ice so I did it for her. When she gets called I help her into the wheelchair and start to sit back down, she tells me I might as well come with her because she's likely just gonna have to wait in the back like in the front.

Yep, about 30 minutes later the doc finally walks into the room. GF is laying back on the table, I'm near the foot of the bed lazily holding the ice, and we're chatting. Doc asks GF what happened, GF explains about her dog and calling me to pick her up and take her, Doc asks me to leave the room, I leave. It is explained to me by GF after I return (which was after the doc left) that the doc told GF she doesn't have to lie to protect me and that she should tell the truth and the'll call the police for her. GF told me that she couldn't believe that she had to explain "No, really, he wasn't even at my house" not once but thrice before doc believed her.

I was sitting there with my mind somewhere between "thank god I've got a cool GF" and "Dear god, if she was pissed at me at all she could have wrecked my life"

Anyways, it was sprained and not broken, thankfully. And, yes, I got all kinds of stares and glares for the next two weeks while she was in a brace. P.S. When picking on GF in public over having a sprained ankle, "Well that'll teach you to keep track of where the dog is" with a chuckle is generally looked down upon ;)

One time when I was 10 my mom got drunk and tried to ride my bike. She failed. She ended up with a black eye, a fucked up chin, bruises ALL over her arms... and yeah. We couldn't go anywhere without people asking her if she was 'okay' or just getting EXTREMELY weird looks.
