What are you suggesting? That this kid who is in school and working two jobs keep the pregnancy, with an unemployed boyfriend who's about to become homeless?

Look, maybe she is super human and get a third job, stay in school and support the whole enterprise. Or maybe, just maybe, in the last two weeks she's had a chat to her boyfriend, realized that it's a terrible option and is seeking some support for what is a horrible decision because she's getting fuck all from this guy who's unemployed, living in a home that's about to be foreclosed, current wish in life is to be a father.

Yeah, fuck that. This girl deserves all the support she can get.

Well I read a lot of the comments. She seems smart and this is a tough time for her. She's a teenager from a broken family who works very hard. She seems sympathetic to her boyfriend's wishes but how can she even make a pregnancy happen in her situation? Even if he was not in the picture and adoption was a solid option it would mess up her life.

Um, hi. I'm the OP from that thread. I'm sorry if I made this a men's rights problem. I knew a few people would be against me for religious reasons and perhaps a few moral reasons. I didn't think I'd end up having to think about this subreddit, and I'm sorry.

I want my boyfriend to have a say in this. I really do. I just can't see a possible way for him to get what he wants with out, not just ruining a lot of my dreams, but ruining his, too. I never brought that up. But he has aspirations as well, besides being a father. He deserves a chance to fulfill them without a child to get in his way. He deserves a good life. I understand, adoption would be less on him. He wouldn't HAVE to loose his aspirations in the work force. But, he'd have to see me pregnant for nine months. Cope knowing that in nine months, he would have to give that up. I couldn't do that to him. Force him to watch, hoping I would change my mind to keep the child.

If we kept the child, that child would have a horrible life. I'd have no support from my family. His family is already suffering. To ask them to help us with our child is selfish. They're going to lose their home. Another mouth to feed won't help. I work 40 hours a week and still have to keep up in school, I don't know how I would look after it. I could lose my scholarships from this. I could have to give up everything I worked for.

I love my boyfriend. I don't want him to hurt. But no one who has said he needs say has given me a way to practically do that. They say I need to figure it out. That's not helpful. If I knew how to do that, I wouldn't have come to reddit. So, please. If you have a way to make it so his voice can hold weight, without destroying any foundation I've been working to build my life on, I'd love to hear it.

He doesn't deserve this. I understand by having sex, we consented that making a baby was possible. I was on the pill, I don't know how I got pregnant. I haven't seen a doctor yet. Maybe I've been taking it wrong. But the damage is done and we need to make a decision. I can live off the government's money for awhile and never achieve my dreams, raise a child terribly, or I can try and have a child with him in the future. When we're both ready. He can still be a dad in the future. This isn't his only chance. But this is my only chance to make the life I want. The life I want to share with him.

Well I don't see a problem with her being able to get rid of a child she never wanted. That's reproductive rights.

At the same time though, we shouldn't force men to pay for children they never wanted, either.

She is completely justified in her decision. It's not like the boyfriend is the CEO of microsoft. He is unemployed, living with his mom. If they actually had the kid, I would find it ridiculous to bring a kid into that situation. He is actually selfish if he simply wants to become a dad under those circumstances. If he got his life back on track, then yes, I could see wanting a kid, but neither of them are ready financially, nor mentally.

The logical answer is they can't really afford this baby at this time and give it a reasonable quality of life. The thing that grates with me though is that the girl has absolute right to choose what she wants to do and, in the eyes of an abortion clinic, the guy's opinion is irrelevent. Sadly, I can't think of any kind of practical solution to this problem. If it were decided by both putting their case to a judge then courts could end up totally booked out with these cases. Then there's the can of worms about a guy being financially responsible for a child he doesn't want if it were the other way round. It seems that men get the rough end of the stick both ways round if one parent doesn't want the child.

We really need to develop the technology to create artificial wombs that an embryo can grow to full term in. Hopefully then that will finally kill off this "men have no say in the pregnancy" line.
