This is a surgical procedure and does have some risk. As it is with women having their tubes tied. Also, if a vasectomy was covered under most insurance or subsidized by the government, as are many female contraceptives, I think that you would see many more men going with this option. The male birth control pill would also help with this problem and would allow a man to control his reproductive rights, but it is still currently unavailable. I think that most men would like more option when it comes to birth control, like women have today, but so far are relegated to the plastic baggy (actually, latex usually). Or, to the option which to most men feels akin to castration (psychologically). Give men more options and I think you will quickly see men more aggressively pursuing their own reproductive rights.

I downvoted this because it's unclear, and it appears that you're comparing apples to oranges (abortion to vasectomy). You might (and probably do) have an interesting point, so I suggest that you repost it in a way that's more clearly worded.

1) A vasectomy will not terminate a pregnancy. It's too late by then.

2) Maybe the man wants to have a baby some day, just doesn't want to have a baby today. With you.

Preventing pregnacy is not the same as terminating pregnancy...

And what does any of this have to do with opting out of parenthood?

Because no amount of invasive surgery on the man is going to fix the problem.

The woman has the abortion because she's carrying the baby.

It's a moot issue anyway. Soon men will have full control over their reproductive choices through additional methods of birth control. Sperm banks will be made illegal. Women will have to whimper, beg and crawl around the feet of men to get their beloved babies.
