On the one hand: LOL "domestic violence" on men. (Saying mean stuff counts as psychological abuse DV these days... if you live in an imaginary gender neutral place where men can use that standard too.)

On the other hand: LOL bitches be crazy.

There is nothing that dignifies anyone in those ads. They are gross. Of course it's feminist to complain about what they say about women... but you might get called a "whiner" if you complain about what they say about men.

That was a pretty stupid ad campaign anyway. It's just plain ineffective. Got Milk? is about "buy some milk and drink it" not "buy someone else some milk". What, I'm going to buy milk instead of flowers? Yeah, right... They're doing this deliberately to get press and hoping it goes viral. I'm 200% certain they intended to cause commotion and blogosphere rage (no news is bad news). You're being played.

We're making progress. I'm kind of sad that they were pulled mostly for making women look like frail, hormonal, demons and not for making it seem like a man has to apologize or accept "Not reading between the right lines" or "Listening to what a woman says and not what she means".

These ads demeaned both sexes. Women got "bitches be crazy". Men got their common "toadying gelding-of-a-man who's too clueless to function" role.

So let's get this straight. We have a talk show on national TV making fun of a mutilated man and nothing happens, but we have a milk company running an ad making women look bad, and they have to change it?

I thought the ads were pretty funny for how over-the-top they were. I kind of felt like that was the point, that the things the men are feeling the need to apologize for are blatantly and hilariously irrational, that they're doing it to avoid flak from the overly-emotional and self-entitled girlfriend/wife. The notion that they feel like they have to do that at all is tragic and unfortunate, yes, but it calls attention to the fact that it happens, which I can appreciate.

Or maybe that wasn't the intention of the ads at all, but it is how I will choose to interpret it.
