Slutwalk - reaction from mens rights movement?

No response because largely we don't care or hold an opposing position. We agree women shouldn't be raped. The only response we could have is "Quit using sexist shaming language while fighting against rape"

I wouldn't even know where to start. The slut walks honestly confuse me because there doesn't seem to be any goal or reason beyond "I am feminist, hear me roar".

Them protesting victim blaming is a complete strawman because it's not based on any reality or belief outside of their minds. We do not blame victims of crime... For pretty much anything, especially not rape, which is probably a crime we overreact to if anything.

I do try to explain the ridiculousness of the walks if I talk to a supporter, but in general I don't really care. The walks always remind me that episode of the Simpsons with the gay pride parade.

I'm paraphrasing:

Marcher: "We're here, we're queer, get used to it!"
Lisa: "We are used to it, you do this every year"

The SlutWalk protest marches began on April 3, 2011 in Toronto, Canada and have since become an international movement of rallies across the world. They are a protest against the belief that any aspect of a woman's appearance might explain or excuse rape. The rallies began in response to remarks made by Constable Michael Sanguinetti, a Toronto Police officer, who suggested that in order not to be victimized, "women should avoid dressing like sluts."

Their protests and parades are pretty useless because usually nobody is really questioning with whom the blame for rape lies but rather contributory negligence with regard to personal safety.

I try to mitigate the chances of being assaulted. Yes that's right! I make sacrifices in my life on account of criminals because I value my own life. I'm not going to have a grin plastered on my face as I'm being stabbed to death knowing that I'm not the one to blame for it. Of course there's probably not much I can do if someone I trust decides to stab me to death, but that doesn't mean there isn't anything I can do at all in any situations.

I don't know. To me these Slutwalks, which seem filled with feminists, don't seem very serious and it's just another one of those things that makes me think a lot of women are simply feminists to take part in a delusional victimhood community to get some sort of catharsis.

If there's anything positive to be said about these parades it's that perhaps these women get to work up a sweat and if the women shown in the Wikipedia article on Slutwalks are indicative of women who participate in them then that's certainly something that's sorely needed. Those who arrange them should make sure to make them last for at least half an hour and have them be somewhat fast paced so that the parades can pass as somewhat alright exercise.

Go to a voice for men, there are a few aussies there that are involved in activism. Not sire of there are any from Sydney though.

I'm from Sydney, male, and fully behind women feeling as free to express their sexuality as men are encouraged to be. Why any red-blooded hetero male would discourage that completely escapes me.

I have a few different reactions.

Do the women on these walks still count as sluts if they are too fat and ugly to get laid?
Pointless attention whoring. It will literally do nothing to prevent rape. As for changing the 'victim blaming' attitude... there is no victim blaming attitude, it's a feminist myth. They have invented a fake bogey man and are marching against this invention.
The real reason feminists were outraged is that someone asked them to take some personal reproducibility for their own safety. As everyone knows feminism is about equal rights not equal responsibility.

At the moment I'm not prepared to list my beliefs and what I agree and disagree with about the Slutwalks, but I just want to find any more information about the MR reaction to it.

There were news cameras at my Slutwalk and I feel that I could very easily have disrupted the movement and got myself on the news... I didnt, but I am very very surprised nobody has done this, because so many of the points they make are ridiculous.

E.g. women want to reclaim the word slut. I dont understand why this doesnt have a bigger presence on The Spearhead or CitizenRen. They are basically saying "dont judge us, the word slut doesnt offend us anymore, its not perjorative anymore". And they want to end slut shaming. Its ridiculous.

I'm not going to list my beliefs at the moment but I do want it make it clear that I dont <i>disrespect</i> sluts, its just that I will never ever date them - and that slut shaming has a very good purpose, and is in fact a good thing for society.

If you dress inappropriately you should have to face the consequences of it. That these women are allowed to demonstrate for such things shows the moral corruption of these nations.
