The girl has breached her 9pm-7am curfew three times. She is due before Preston Crown Court next month.

She is jointly charged with two other men with four counts of robbery, attempted robbery, receiving stolen goods and having a bladed article in Hancock Street, Blackburn, on February 28.

The robbers made off with £1 and a school blazer in one incident and a Blackberry smartphone in another.

The Lancashire Telegraph understands that the girl is not said by police and prosecutors to be the driving force in the alleged incidents.

I agree with the purpose of the "Punishment" for two reasons. First it keeps the money from going into prisons that really don't solve the problem. Second it is working to rehabilitate someone rather than simply lock them away.

The problems I foresee: It doesn't truly facilitate resocialization, and will more than likely not be applied evenly across gender.

As sensational as DM might want to make it seem, I have no problem with juvenile offenders being sentenced to learn a trade, both male and female.

Not to say this is a good "punishment", but I work with a nonprofit therapeutic horse riding program and have seen the benefits of equine therapy first hand.

We deal with people with various mental and physical disabilities and have some kids come to the barn completely out of control, but once they are on the horse their personality does a complete turnaround.

I guess that they are banking on the calming nature of horses to get rid of her bad vibes. Also, having to take care of the animals and be on a schedule for feeding and studying could help teach a little more responsibility.

Not sure how well it will work with violent behaviors, but after experiencing how relaxing just grooming a horse can be, it really wouldn't surprise me if this ended up being a positive influence.
