What do you know? Who thought that discouraging empathy, sensitivity, and emotional intelligence would result in men needing therapy but no male therapists being around.

a man’s willingness to seek therapy was directly related to how strongly he agreed with traditionally male assumptions, like “I can usually handle whatever comes my way.” Such a man on the fence about seeking treatment could be discouraged by the prospect of talking to a woman.

How did the journalist reach that conclusion? Sex offenders and convicts are generally more trusting and honest towards women and prefer to talk to them. It's equally possible that a man holding traditional masculine values would be unwilling to see any therapist.

Part of the problem with the profession is that it encourages wallowing. Much earlier in my life I sought counseling. I wanted specific ideas about how to solve problems in my life. Instead I was given the standard, cliche "How does that make you feel?". Excuse me, ma'am, but I already know how I feel about the situation, and it is irrelevant to solving the problem.

Every counselor I've ever seen was a woman except the last. They had varying degrees of quality and use, but the guy pretty much sucked at the therapist bit. Did not go back to him.

Assuming that supply-and-demand actually works, this problem should correct itself.
