I don't think I could be a priest. She's a hero for finally after four years fessing up about sending a man to jail for a rape he didn't commit? Yeah it's great she finally owned up to it, but a "hero"? Please.

The only justice here is that he might get $30m and hopefully every day of those four years was a living hell for her.

I think the prosecutor, who sat on exculpatory evidence in this case, needs to lose his license to practice law, be fired, and face charges for abuse of office / perverting the course of justice, and serve a jail term.

The prosecutor, wielding enormous power which he took an oath to use faithfully, betrayed the public trust and knowingly sent an innocent man to jail.

Leaving such enormous breaches of trust unpunished on the part of government agents is a fundamental corruption of our legal system.

We can not aspire to be a free society and tolerate such.

While seeing a false accuser face serious (though inadequate) jail time is a big step forward for men, the next step of holding prosecutors to account is more important.

I think a lot more prosecutors took note of the Duke case than will take note of this one, since Nilfong was disgraced and disbarred for his abuses.

There was another story similar to this one I read at falserapesociety where a woman 'came forward' with the truth after her lies led to a man being imprisoned. I forgot how many years but I know it was more than 4. She also was played up in the media as being 'brave' and 'plagued by guilt'.

Normally, I feel like the jail time sentenced to/served by false accusers is appropriate. I'm usually just happy they get thrown in jail. But fuck, this guy spent almost 4 years in jail and she gets a max of 3 years?!?

I guess the big difference is that in the 'normal' false accuser story, everything unravels before the man is convicted. Here she let him be convicted and serve over 3 years, all to avoid her friends being mad at her for ditching them to have sex with him. That woman disgusts me to whole new levels.

Also, good on her, she's a hero for coming forward after being ordered to by her priest, or something.

It was really heartening to see the judge not only clear him, but apologise, and acknowledge the horrible things that are said about those who are accused of rape. It's not just the time lost.

The funds should come from the woman, kinda like alimony or child support - she should be kept just a little above the-starving-to-death-level of living until it is paid off... Maybe all those involved can also suffer the same fate as her.

Also, she should spend 8 years in jail to make up for his 4 years...

Let's not be too hard on Biurny Peguero lest other people that have lied to send people to prison would be more reluctant to admit it after a cooling down period. I think the three years she got is too much. It would have been better if she hadn't gotten any jail time so as to encourage other perjurers to come forward.

Her coming forward is wonderful, but she should at least go to jail for the same amount of time that he was in.
