Neither you nor your GF showed any consideration for the woman she was sharing the hospital room with. You were talking loudly (about her no less), disregarded her need for privacy, and you are upset because you got some dirty looks. This is not a man vs. woman thing. Perhaps if you were little more considerate of other people, they would be a little more considerate of you.

Anyway: you stayed in a hospital room with your laptop, talking to your girlfriend. You deliberately spoke loudly about the other patient rather than simply asking her if it was ok if you could stick around a bit. You felt that she was uncomfortable with you being there but you ignored it and pretended all was well. And you wonder why she got pissed at you?

I doubt she is 'afraid to even change her clothes in the next room to a man', more likely she just felt like you were being rude. The nurse could have handled it better but so could you. Easily avoided by being friendly and asking the other patient if it's ok for you to sit and chat a little longer. Is it that hard to be a little considerate, even in a hospital?

Why didn't you just get out of the room? This has nothing to do with you being a man. You could have been a woman and she would have done the same thing.

You should be considerate and understand that some people wouldn't like the idea of getting undressed next to strangers

I've had my share of hospital visits (as both a patient and visitor) over the last few years. What they (the nurses) did to you was unprofessional and clearly this woman has had some sort of issue with men in the past. I understand from a medical perspective sometimes you can't make it to the bathroom or you might need help to change, thus you want some sort of privacy. If that were the case, how about she asks for you to leave during that time and then have you come back when she is decent? A hospital is already pretty uncomfortable to begin with, so it is very important that you stayed with your GF.

As a man, I would be pissed beyond belief and would ask that either my girlfriend and I be moved to another room or have that other patient moved. Why? As a patient, having friends and/or family visiting was one of the biggest reasons why I didn't die during my first two week stay. Gender doesn't matter - getting better does. If comfort is an issue, talk about it, don't presume the man in the room is some sort of sex-maniac that is going to stare at you through a fucking bathroom wall.

I hate what is going on in society right now - all men are labeled as sex deviants and predators. You did nothing wrong and should of immediately asked for a nurse manager to resolve this. A hospital is meant to get better in, not stress about shit like this.

I sincerely hope your GF gets better. That woman who caused that ruckus is the reason why we have a sexist society.

You as a human being, are entitled to a reasonable level of civility while supporting your girlfriend in hospital, seems to me like you didnt get that, and your right to be annoyed.

Im currently in and out of hospital, and thats populated mainly with female nurses, but they seem to fairly professional and friendly.

Saying that, I never just accept a single diganosis, and I say to any man thats not satisfied with a diagnosis, always get a second private opinion (Im in the UK, so my first port of call is the NHS).
