This is exactly the type of thing we need to see more of. Taking pride in the male history of and proclivity to: building, making, doing, invention, experimentation, logic, applied problem solving, and critical thinking.

Rather than broadcast the idea of the useless male, an idea which has been broadcast for decades, we need to show the world positive masculine role models, which would hopefully help stop the demonization of masculinity.

It's sad how few people want to learn practical skills.

I can remember having my motorcycle break down in front of a friend's house once, I asked him if he had a multimeter, he said he didn't know why he would ever need one - he also has an engineering degree. I was sad.

It doesn't fight agains the stereotype of feminism's useless male. They confirm that it isn't a stereotype and that they're going to do something about it. Did you watch the video?

Ok, so I watched it. Looks interesting. But it seems to me that he doesn't "fight against" the stereotype of "feminism's useless male" (and I won't even bother going into the silliness of that verbal construction), but that, rather, he buys into it wholeheartedly, going so far as to reinforce that stereotype in the opening "plug wiring" sequence.

First of all, I don't think feminists created the useless male stereotype. I think feminists help create the concept of the capable female, but that doesn't necessitate a useless male -- although I admit that they often are coupled together by lazy writers. And I think it's important to mention that I know lots of feminists who hate the useless male stereotype. Before, women had to serve men because it was our duty to be subservient to the wise and capable pater familias. Now, the message is that women have to serve men because it's our duty to take care of children, and men are children. Either way, we are supposed to serve men. It sucks for men and women alike.

Secondly, this show seems to be advancing two stereotypes about men - first that they currently are useless and soft, and secondly that they should be hypercapable alpha-males. I thought Mens Rights was fighting against both of those ideas.

I have a [female] friend that refers to the skills and crafts in this show as 'the manly arts'. For better or for worse, I was raised to believe that I'm capable of building and fixing anything that can be built or fixed, as long as I'm willing to take the time to learn and apply what I already know. And, whaddya know, there's real satisfaction in being self reliant.

I try not to hate on my guy friends that would, say, pay a guy to repair his fence. But that doesn't stop me from questioning his manhood.

Isn't he also doing a show on toys for grown-up boys? :P I think when men (like Cuban men) are forced to do things for themselves out of necessity, they will relearn the necessary skills. Sheer poverty will make useful individuals out of many of us!
