This woman is actually onto something. I've told the story here before about a guy I know who dumped his girlfriend and ended up paying child support for a kid everyone knew wasn't his. They dated for a year or two, he dumped her, she sued him for child support and she won. The judge declared that he acted as a father-figure to her young boy.

I'm sure there's not a judge alive who would order child-support after two hours of babysitting, but, basically, if you treat your girlfriend's kid(s) well, like any decent human being would, then you are certainly on the hook for child support if she pushes the issue.

It may sound harsh, but you should never date a woman with a child for any extended period of time. And for those of you aghast at this advice I suggest you make some positive contribution to child custody, child support, and/or family law reform rather than be upset with me.
