Debtors prison? I don't think we have that any more.

Edit: Then again, when you get laid off, can't find a job quickly, and your absurd child support/alimony payments pile up, you lose your house and your car, get arrested for vagrancy, and have no money for bail... Well I guess we do have debtors prisons.

I did jail time for a month for falling behind in child support payments ($3k a month)... the arrears are now over $100K and there is another warrant for my arrest in NY.

That's fucked up...a man getting jailed for being $1.90 in arrears for child support.

Fuck that shit and we need to change this somehow!

The group, Hunger Strike for Justice, estimates the total number of fathers incarcerated in the U.S. for failure to pay child support is 250,000.

This estimate seems high given that the entire prison population is somewhat over two million, but it is difficult to argue because no official statistics exist.
