Hooray! These are the kind of posts I like to see on /r/MensRights. Less with the ladyhate, more with the dismantling of gender barriers for the benefit of ALL involved.

A year is sooooo much time off work. They would be living off their savings this entire time. For the average middle class family this would be too much time.

My dad was always sure to point that out to me when we drove by the local plant where the workers were striking. He would tell me how it would take them 5-7 years to recover the savings they spent striking for a 5-10% raise.

I think both genders should be offered 3-6 months. 6 months is a lot of time though. 3 is more than fair.

This is just as good (if not better) news for women. Lack of paternity leave means that it is the mother that has to take significant time off work. Leaving 2-3 years behind the men in their careers, leading to the false pay gap between men and women.

wow. Isn't this a breath of fresh air. Fathers as equal parents. You mean they are actually able to share in the joy of their newborn. Shocking! Congrats to UK! I thought they only became more important when child support was being determined.

I'm glad they are doing this. I doubt it will see much action, but the point is, that the option is there, and theres true gender equality, and neither men nor women had to lose anything for it.
