Femininty is never talked about. There is no question about what femininty is or what healthy femininty is. But somehow masculinity had to be talked about. Somehow a conversation about masculinity in necessary. I think we should just stop talking about it. Because we are just playing the game of feminists, derailing the conversation from male issues to masculinity.

Masculinity is a framework to understand the traits that we have, that biologically are more common amongst men. It's not a set of guidelines we rigorously follow, it's something that helps us understand who we are and where the traits we have may have come from.

There is a "scientific" answer to this question if you want to get technical.

But the tin men has such a positive approach to this that bringing that up almost serves no purpose.

And it's not like we don't already have an idea of what the science and psychology of masculinity is -- it's basically just common sense. We already know what a man is.

They're our brothers, our fathers, and our sons. And yes sometimes they're our daughters and our sisters. Masculinity lives in women. Sometimes it even outshines their femininity.

Men fight, protect, ponder, learn, struggle, overcome, and master the world around them. Often for no other reason than to help the people they love.

Men's ability to father multiple children with less expenditure but also their resulting lower sexual market-value (abundance of resource decreases market value) and women's greater long-term investment and expenditure while performing the reproductive function (need for protection and provision) lead to the expectation for men to differentiate themselves from the desired & passive sex (female) by becoming the performative, competitive & desiring sex (male).

That is, masculinity is traditionally defined by its differentiation from femininity, and hence also its inflexibility (femininity is only constrained as a secondary effect but enjoys greater flexibility) and this is also behind the need of the male to differentiate himself from the female through feats and achievements.

Additionally, men's role has to a degree been made obsolete due to technological advances (including the birth control pill) and a social welfare state. What men need in women is less material, but rather emotional and sexual intimacy, as well as birthing and child raising. You can't as easily replace these roles. This is why we have a "crisis of masculinity".

Having a beard and drinking beer is a perfectly fine form of masculine self-expression.
