I've seen (at least) two different versions of this term, and I think it would be best to have a little discussion about which version is better. Legal Parental Surrender, or Legal Paternal Surrender.

In my mind, the middle word should be Parental, so we don't make the same mistake a lot of movements do in naming things, and we keep the term wide and egalitarian. In some ways we already have Legal Parental Surrender for women in the form of safe havens, so folding that under the same umbrella would grant us some traction when it comes to getting the concept accepted in wider society. Also I think LPS should be for anyone who doesn't want to be a parent. There are reasons for a woman to not want to be a parent but not want to have an abortion, and keeping the term bigger allows for those situations as well. I imagine a man who wants to be a father and a woman who agrees to carry their accidental pregnancy to term, but she wants nothing to do with the child beyond that point.

Keep our terms egalitarian as well as our values and avoid feminism's pitfalls.
