Justin Trudeau is the openly feminist prime minister of Canada, and has integrated feminism directly into his tenure and policy making decisions. It's interesting to note what this has meant- direct discrimination and less rights for male citizens. In Canada, the law does not afford male workers equal pay rights.

Trudeau passed the Pay Equity Act of 2018 earlier this year. It is presented as being a measure that guarantees equal pay, but when the language of the bill is examined, there's a caveat- men are actually not protected, and it is not illegal to pay men less. Take a look:

The Act requires private sector employers with ten or more employees and all public sector employers to value and compare jobs usually done by women to those usually done by men in an objective and consistent way using factors of skill, effort, responsibility and working conditions. A female job class must receive compensation that is at least equal to the compensation that is paid to a male job class of equal or comparable value.

Notice what I emphasized- compensation that is at least equal, which means it can either be equal, or can be more. And notice the wording, it is specifically not gender neutral, it says that a female job class must receive at least as much a male...there is no wording about how the genders must be equal, or prohibiting one gender being paid more than another.

Furthermore more, under the Employment Equity Act, men are again specifically left out, as the 4 designated classes are as follows:

  • Women

  • Disabled workers

  • Visible minorities

  • Aboriginal workers

While the last 3 can be justified as minority populations, including women as a protected class means that over 50% of the population is a protected class, which means that the for minority of the population not in that class, finding a job is much more difficult. While this affects white men the most, even for a minority man, he is still disadvantaged for being male.

Unsurprisingly, the male unemployment rate is consistently higher in Canada, with men being more likely to be out of work. Despite this, the class more likely to be unemployed faces legalized discrimination in hiring, and the class more likely to be employed is given favored status.

As is common in anything SJW, the language is very indirect, so it can be claimed "oh, it doesn't actually say that men aren't protected", it's just written around that so the effect is exactly the same.
