In my country India, many men try to get married into wealthier families through arranged marriages so they can get a hefty 'dowry' from the girl's family which includes a lot of cash and gifts. The problem is so rampant that married women have been killed/tortured when their families were unable to give dowry or bend to the money demands of the groom's family. Dowry has been outlawed now thankfully, but the problem is still rampant and sees no signs of slowing down. So yeah, I think what we're seeing here is a form of hypergamy.

Wouldn't this make hypergamy obsolete then? I mean because it's specifically about WOMEN dating up in terms of wealth and such, it does mention men although only in the context that we date up in terms of looks and personality. Although if there is a growing trend of men dating wealthy women and these women accepting their propositions, then what does that mean?

Looks like you're right. Note that (at least on wikipedia) the definition is defined as the act of marrying up itself, not the intention.

"The term hypergyny is used to describe the overall practice of women marrying up, since the men would be marrying down."
