Feminists have taken the word "man" out of everything except for gunman.

Colleges say that its rape to have sex with a drunk person, but in reality voluntary intoxication doesn't remove a person's ability to consent.

Fifty years ago, black men got arrested for whistling at white women. Now, all men get arrested for looking at any women.

When people come here and talk about "real feminists" maybe we could ask them if the Pankhursts were real feminists instead of giving them the normal Karen Straughan speech on who is the real feminist.

Lol, crazy broads.

The same thing Americans did in 1776 when they couldn't vote.

Women took up arms under the authority of their local governments?

Do local governments have the authority to sanction violent revolutions?

[–]sgt_oddball_17 5 points6 points7 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

The point is, it's not "terrorism". They are in an organized unit, under command of officers, and engaging under the rules and customs of war

[+]EnvironmentalWar4627 -9 points-8 points-7 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Declaring war against your government to achieve a political goal through violent revolution is okay to you? So all feminists needed to do was have a hierarchy and then they can burn america to the ground?

This is a reach.

History belongs to the Victor. Violent revolution is someone else's freedom fight.

Except this involved civilians being killed.

American men

Women 100% should be able to vote and one person’s terrorist is another person’s freedom fighter unfortunately.

[–]Pontius23 8 points9 points10 points 4 years ago (20 children) | Copy Link

They stopped their campaign when WWI broke out. They didn't want to be drafted. The vote doesn't (at least shouldn't) come without civic responsibility.

[+]Hirokihiro -8 points-7 points-6 points 4 years ago (19 children) | Copy Link

So because you don’t want to join the military, you shouldn’t be allowed to vote?

[–]TheSpaceDuck 9 points10 points11 points 4 years ago (18 children) | Copy Link

Funny that you say that because that's exactly how it works for men.

[+]Hirokihiro -7 points-6 points-5 points 4 years ago (17 children) | Copy Link

Where is that the case?

[–]ContrarianDouche 7 points8 points9 points 4 years ago (15 children) | Copy Link

Everywhere in the United States.

If you do not register for the draft then you are barred from many things a normal citizen would expect. Voting, federal student loans, etc

Men only though. Women get these rights upon turning 18, no registration needed

Oh wow- I’m british and didn’t know that hence why I was asking

We don’t have that here

[–]locks_are_paranoid[S] -5 points-4 points-3 points 4 years ago (11 children) | Copy Link

He's wrong. You are not barred from voting if you don't register for Selective Service, This comes up a lot on this sub, yet no one has been able to find any proof of it.

[–]TheSpaceDuck 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link

This has been discussed ad nauseam and yes it is connected to the draft.

This is the reason why black men became eligible to vote (they were already eligible for the draft) before racial equality was recognized in USA. It is also the reason why many women opposed the suffragettes. They did not want to be drafted.

Eventually the suffragettes solved this problem by not only giving the vote to women but also severing it from the military draft for women.

You are not barred from voting if you don't register with Selective Service. Please find any proof that this is true.

[–]ContrarianDouche 3 points4 points5 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You know what, you're right. If you don't register for the draft you are not explicitly barred from voting.

However by failing to register for the draft you are subject to a $250000 fine and/or jail time.

Good luck registering to vote without raising any of those questions. It's disenfranchisement with extra steps

As far as I know, there has never been a written law tying suffrage to conscription, at least in the U.S., but we did have an understanding that the two should go together, at least for men.

During the Vietnam War there was a push to pass an amendment to the constitution (26th) that reduced the voting age from 21 to 18. This was because 18 year old young men were being conscripted. You can find countless images of banners and pins saying "old enough to fight, old enough to vote," just by google searching "26th amendment." Originally, the minimum age to be conscripted had been 21, the same as the minimum voting age, but that had been lowered to 18 during WWII (the maximum age was also increased to 37). At the time, everyone was kinda focused on supporting the war effort, so not much thought was placed on fair voting rights for young men, but when people did start paying attention to it, male conscription was used to justify increased suffrage, but 18 year old women benefitted from this, even though they were never conscripted.

Conscription has absolutely been an important part of suffrage, except for women.
