So basically I (20F) had been seeing this guy (21M) for about a month and a half and I decided to break it off 2 days ago. I really enjoy hearing from someone im seeing daily and he did not fit that. He'd skip a day the more we continued talking and it made me question his interest in me. Also, the phone calls became shorter and shorter. At the beginning of us talking, he called every day without fail and they were at least one hour or so, and then it started to dwindle. I've had this happen in a past guy I used to see and it ended up being them loosing interest so decided it was best to end things with him.
When I called him to break it off, I told him I felt we were incompatible in terms of communication and he said that he doesn't like to talk to people every day when moving towards a relationship because it moves it too fast. I was very confused because we used to talk every day previously so shouldn't he not be trying to talk every day from the beginning? And it's not like we're both extremely busy either. I would understand if he couldn't talk to me daily if he was working a lot and was a busy professional but he isnt. His only excuse would be he's "really busy" when he missed a day talking to me. He's only doing one school course, he does work at a grocery store but I know he has plenty of time because I've seen him playing video games over the phone with his friends for hours and talking to them.
After I broke it off, I kind of panicked because I knew I had feelings for him and decided to tell him I made a mistake the next day and if we could try again. I said I had my fair share of disingenuine people and realized that maybe he was a genuine person and it was just miscommunication. He told me the feelings he had for me were tainted now and that he didn't want to pursue a relationship anymore but a friendship instead. I asked him what changed and he said he didn't want someone who backtracked (valid) and that I wasn't putting effort in previously and he felt he was doing all the chasing. He wanted me to call him sometimes and do some part of the pursuing because he was assuming I wasn't interested. He also felt I didn't open up to him enough and he did a lot (which is weird because I did tell him personal stuff). Like for example, he wanted me to show my real hair (I wear weaves) but I wasn't comfortable with that yet and he complained that I didn't do that. I feel I did show my interest and it was obvious, the only thing I didn't do was say I liked him directly, but I feel it should have been very clear through my body language and the fact that I continued to see him. I didn't know how to really respond to that except saying that I was interested but needed to feel out his intentions first.
Anyways, did I make the right decision in breaking it off? For some reason, because I felt comfortable around him and such, I keep having this feeling like he was the "one" and I'll never find anyone like him again. I'm also kind of hurt because although I broke it off and then backtracked, I feel like he didn't understand where I was coming from and his feelings for me just disappeared. Like he used to say I was so important to him and he cared about me but if I was all that important to him, wouldn't he have wanted to work things out with me the moment I wanted to break it off due to the communication problem?
