TL:DR at the bottom
Hey guys. I’ve been mostly rid of of the bullshit I’ve been fed, but there’s something I wanted to ask because of things I’ve seen recently.
I would like a little rational feedback about the redpill concept of “Orbiters.” If you don’t know what that means, (from my understanding) it is a male derogative term in the redpill manosphere for a man or group of men who are either friend-zoned, are friends with, or simply “hang around” one or more women in the vain hope they will “come around” and want to date one of them once he “proves himself” to be “not like the other guys” or some similar nonsense.
In context, you can imagine seeing a group of relatively uninteresting men “orbiting” one or more women. The women receive easy attention and validation, and the narrative is spun to imply that the men are wasting their time in hopeless (perhaps unconscious) pursuit, and just need to move on. Meanwhile, the girl(s), being aware of her many options, proceeds to go have sex with someone else.
Obviously, this is an extremely odious and bitter portrayal of a real social phenomenon. It is true that men will spend time with women because they’re platonically fun and interesting, or perhaps one is indeed attracted to the other. And maybe vice versa; the girls feel safe and in good company, etc. HOWEVER, is also plausible that women can choose to manipulate men in the way described.
All I know is what I see. What I see are bunch of overweight men spending time with one extra-ordinarily beautiful woman. I see this, and I draw inferences based upon my knowledge and limited experience. I know that my knowledge is corrupt, so I come to ask for help.
What do you make of this kind of situation? Is there anything I should be careful of? I am attracted to the girl in question, but I doubt anything would come of it (perhaps I am selling myself short). I just don’t know. I’m very new to dating.
TL:DR - In theory, orbiters are guys who hopelessly hang around women they want to date but can’t, and the women let them stick around because they’re dumb. In practice, I don’t want to be friends with such people if the theory is true, but I’m still interested in talking to this girl I just met. Does any of this even matter? If so, what should I be careful about?
