This sub is negative, as it should be. It points to fights.

But having been here ridiculously long? I have seen some things change. Not solved, that's not how this process works.

But Family court inequities are being attacked in my state. Default assumption is 50/50 joint custody without "clear and compelling evidence". There is no alimony, but spousal support. To the point I have a former Family Court judge that wants to challenge my divorce decree pro bono, on principle. I have no action pending. She was reviewing cases on her own, to fix some shit.

That's a lot, by itself.

But also, our biggest baby center has changed it's language regarding circumcision. It is no longer default. Spousal approval of vasectomies have also vanished.

The local antirape language (I'm in a multi university and tourist town) is inclusive, as is enforcement. There was a rape alert for men put out recently, warning of women drugging men, and arrests were made in a multi-state effort.

So, yes. Things are happening. Very slowly, but yes. Things are happening.

Is men's rights even a thing?

Yes, we got a subreddit with a few users. There are probably other groups as well, maybe even some people who meet in real life. But if we're talking about the society as a whole, do people know that a "men's rights movement" even exists? We know about feminism, about LGBTQ movements, about BIPOC movements - but men's rights? My fiancée didn't even know about Movemeber lol.

So if you ask what (positive) things come from us, I'd argue we are too few to even get recognition from anyone.

Good question. There's a lot of positive things we should talk about more.

Fathers rights activism is the most successful branch of the men's rights movement. Lobbyists like the National Parents Organization have successfully changed a few state laws to protect some percent of children from being alienated from fathers. There's a long way to go before we achieve equality so we should all support these groups.

Elsewhere, activists like Warren Farrell do get things done. Their published works are cited in the academic debates that lead to policy. Ferrell's political outreach informs policy, too. People like him are competing in the same arena with feminist literature and holding their own.

I see BLM as mostly a men's movement. An intersectional men's movement. It's about black MEN, with very few exceptions (other than Brianna Taylor, nobody can name a female victim of police abuse of power, it's all men). BLM are somewhat successful, though no real reform has been passed yet to make any men (black men included) safer from police brutality.

To me it helped a lot to be able to voice these opinions and see that not everyone succumbs to being silenced about the oppressions against men.

I think society is making a huge mistake when they are silencing groups like men are being silenced today, and I desperately needed some outlet before going crazy about the cognitive dissonance in the public discourse.

A majority of my coworkers who have taken extended time off (4+ weeks) for their newborn child have been male.

That was unthinkable a few decades ago.

Awareness. That's a very positive thing.

It allows you to modify your behavior and avoid certain people and groups, so you don't fall into traps.

It shows you who and what you shouldn't support.
