So this is something I've been noticing more and more since moving to a more conservative state. I am the custodial parent for my kid. The mother lives out of state so I have myself listed as the primary contact for her school and her doctors. After myself, I have my wife and some local relatives as emergency contacts and then the mother is actually listed pretty far down the list just because she lives so far away there isn't much she can do and I talk to her about everything medically related beforehand.

Anyways, with all of that in mind, I have never been the first phone call for anything related to my daughter. The school called the mom who is fifth on the contact list once when my kid needed to be picked up. They then called my wife (second on the list), who walked into my office and told me I needed to go pick up my kid. I was never called even though I'm the first person on the list. I even went back and confirmed with the office that I am the first person on the form and they didn't have an answer as to why they didn't follow the list.

A more recent example has been, every time I go to the doctor, they confirm our phone number. They always read me my wife's number and I ask them to change the number to mine as the primary. I did that yesterday. This morning, the doctor's office called me and started the conversation with, "we just tried calling your wife, but she didn't pick up." I said I should be the first call and she said, "Oh yeah, I see you as the primary on here."

Anyways, this is only a little annoying but I think it is important to highlight that instances of sexism for pretty important matters occur against men too.
