Hello all! It's been a long time since I was active on this board, so I hope I am still welcome. F43 with a M43, LTR of 2 years together. I am a sex worker and I met my man first as a client. We are currently monogamous (I know many will argue we are not due to the nature of my work, but for discussion sake I'd like to keep the focus off work because he has said this is a "want but not a need" that he would feel regardless of my job status).
My man has been wonderfully honest with me in the past about having "urges" to be with other women, the urge in his DNA for variety, which I sympathetically understand from a logical perspective. However, emotionally I still find it very difficult to process and feel at peace with because I love being intimate ONLY with him. We have a very active and open sex life between us two, and he has said he is extremely satisfied... That I go above and beyond what any other woman has ever done to keep our sex life thriving.
About 4 months ago we had a very intense evening (a psychedelic trip) where I basically lost my sh*t (I normally restrain any negative emotions around him) and cried for hours about how it's difficult for me to know he still wants other women, and that if he truly needs that then I just want him to be happy and if that means he will leave me, I will accept it. He too was extremely sad, later cried and expressed his sorrow, said that he had never realized how intensely sacred our sex life is to me, and that he never wants to jepordize our relationship by acting on his urges. He accepted that I want and need monogamy, so he will shelf any "wants" about sex with others.
Since then, our sex life, emotional intimacy, and relationship has been amazing. He has started talking about us moving in together, organizing a complete future together, and marriage (he happily said recently "Yes, I absolutely want to marry you. It's going to happen baby. I know how much that means to you ")
3 days ago while on a walk together, the topic came up again after I was (sorry to use this phrase) triggered by a RP video he was watching, and he admitted that he still has the urges and that he had been hoping I would change my mind about a "hall pass" for our relationship... that it's sex and nothing more for variety. Needless to say this breaks my heart to hear. (The psycho analyst in my head wonders if this is a way of "provoking abandonment", a way to regain autonomy after he enthusiastically said he wants to marry me)
I have never been in anything other than a monogamous hetero relationship, and have never planned on, desired, or wanted a poly/ open/ hall pass/ swingers lifestyle. I am receptive to trying a hall-pass with him because I truly love this man with every inch of my being, and I want the most satisfying life for him and us.
So, the crux of what I'm trying to figure out is: if I decide to try this in order to enable a fulfilling life for us together, what is the best way to create boundaries for this type of lifestyle, within the RPW design of "Bring him your problems, not your solutions"?
For me I will only feel comfortable with certain boundaries in place: trying a threesome first, specific # of times a year for the hall pass, and zero secrecy or hiding things (I do not want to find out after the fact, especially since I am quite well known in the sex industry and thus know many local workers).
I am trying to look at it like a fun act we can potentially do together, where we choose the girl or maybe I get to play with a different girl at the same time. The discouraging thing for me is that he seems very reluctant to even try a threesome with me first, says when he is with me he only wants to focus on me, and he worries I will be jealous in the moment while he is playing with the new girl. (Personally I am bisexual and have many 3some at work, so I don't think this will be an issue)
How do I present my personal boundaries in a scenario like this without it coming across as an ultimatum or restricting his freedom? Does anyone here practice an open/ hall pass relationship? How can I feel special and loved and not like a terrified doormat getting "played" during this? Is it "fair" to ask for some form of reciprocity considering this isn't something I actually want in our relationship? ( Although I have no desire to, I asked how he would feel if I wanted a hall pass to be with other men, and he said he would not "like" it but that he may accept it so long as he knows no details). Are there recommended books or other media on dealing with the jealousy, anxiety, and insecurity that may follow afterwards?
I know this is a lot to process; I have a therapy appointment on Thurs, and plan on journalling my thoughts, questions, and concerns today in a logical format so we can approach this rationally. Thanks you all so much for your time, and happy new year.
