I teach college and run the costume shop for my schools theater program. I have students who get paid to work in the shop for work study and I have a young lady this semester who is particularly awesome. She’s 18 and very driven and talented and since we spend a lot of hours together we of course have chats about life and I’m consistently blown away by how mature she is.

The other day she was telling me her best friend has been talking about how much she can’t wait to marry her bf and get a house and have kids. I usually just let kids talk, I find so few people just listen so I like to lend a listening ear when they need one. She goes “I don’t know, getting married and having a kid just seems like a trap to me. It seems like so much work on the woman, it’s really unfair”.

I was just like “be still my heart” and I told her she is a very smart and talented young lady, and she has her priorities right. She continued to tell me stories about her mom who no surprise, sounds extremely high value and bad ass herself. I’m glad to see some women have it right at such a young age!!!
