If the suicide rate was the opposite way around there would be a special month dedicated to it and we would have a special colour for that particular month just like breast cancer awareness month and we would throw ton's of money into women's suicide prevention but because it's male suicide we get nothing

Edit: I'm pretty sure if the suicide rate was the other way around and women had no support and I was here pointing it out I don't think I would be almost completely down voted ether double standard much?

If the gender roles were reversed and women were 80% of suicides the CDC would certainly mention it females being the vast majority of suicides.

That's really sad. I tried to think of some illnesses that affect women more and looked them up on the CDC website.

Osteoporosis mentions the gender disparity.

Stroke mentions the gender disparity.

Fibromyalgia mentions the gender disparity.

I guess their page on anxiety (which affects women more) doesn't either. This could have something to do with it being a highly sensitive topic and them not wanting to seem divisive.

It's weird how rape and domestic violence are considered 'women's issues' when they happen to so many men as well, yet no one will ever call suicide a 'men's issue'. I'm okay with the CDC site not mentioning gender (because suicide can affect anyone), but why can't they do the same with rape and domestic violence? Because those too, can happen to anyone.

The way they broke it down by age, occupation and Veteran status is kind of helpful. There’s interventions specific for middle age men, a high risk group, that might not be helpful for men as an entire group.

However, I agree with people men and suicide is a public health crisis that should be highlighted the way Women’s issues are.

The erasing of men's issues and men's experiences by the CDC is an act of callous gendered violence targetting some of the most vulnerable of our community. This erasure of men from a narrative about an issue that is dominated by the suffering of men, reveals the CDC as sexist pigs, the CDC web page as misandrist hate speech enabling the worst feminist hatred of men.
