I think there should be a difference between fear and hate.

Fear can be irrational and irrational behaviour you aren't in control of isn't sexist.

Hate on the other hand is a decision you make and can be sexist, I admit I hate feminists but I don't hate women. This is the same with any factor that is a difference between broad categories that people can't control to decisions in life they made that focus them into a group (political choices, religion, fandoms etc)

If you had been abused, constantly bullied when younger, or had some other incident to cause the fear, it's rational. Completely fine with this.

If it's an irrational fear, it's still 'okay', but why is there that fear? Lot of friends have terrible relationships? Again okay, fear by proxy. I've feared getting back on a motorbike for 6 years after losing my brother in a bike accident. I was the safer rider, so it's a little irrational. But it's by proxy and for me to work through.

Creating fear of the opposite gender. That is sexist. Because if you fear it, you're more likely to cause it harm. And so you are likely to be the thing you fear...

To fear isn't sexist, but to push your fear on other people is, at least when unjustified.

It depends. Teaching your young girls to fear men and generalizing men as evil is sexist, same vise versa.

Being afraid of men at night and women when you're alone with them is rational fear yet generalizing. For me, I'm afraid of anyone that walks by me, man or woman, because I'm aware that I could get robbed or kidnapped by a woman, although it's not very common. My male friends are uncommon when they're alone in a room with women because they fear being falsely accused. It's understandable, although it's uncommon.

Now if you're afraid of men because you hate men or you're afraid of women because you hate women, yes, that's sexist. If some woman said "ALL MEN are evil, they should ALL have a cerfew at night because they're all creepy and they're super dangerous at night" that's sexist, very sexist. If a man said "ALL WOMEN falsely accuse us and will get us arrested for just existing" that's also sexist.

Fearing the opposite gender because you've been abused by them is understandable, but hating every man/woman because of it isn't okay.

It really depends on what you mean by fear the opposite gender.

It's fine if your fear dictates your own behaviour. But don't use your fear to dictate how black men should walk in streets. Men are not asking women to wear bodycam before hugging men.

Sometimes biases are shown for self protection, and biases are generally formed from experiences or the voices of other. Sexism is a bias, as is racism, or agism, or religious intolerance. Some phobias are actually real.

So a woman fearing a man (eg OMG, he just wants to rape me) solely based on him being a man, is no different to a white person solely fearing a black person may mug them.

"a woman's world is ruled by fear" Girls are raised (by their mothers) that their safety is number one and they listen to their peers and others, especially stories that have been amplified to suit someone's agenda. A recent post was about "every woman knows a woman who has been raped." I was suggest most of the rape victims "they know" are in fact friends of friends of acquaintances. The same argument could be levelled by saying "every man knows a man who has been unable to see his kids post divorce."

I think the act of fearing a group of people solely based on one aspect is sexist/racist/agist/zeolous/homophopbic/biased. Whether it is a good thing or bad is another discussion

If you fear some purely because of what gender they are then yes that's sexist. Your judging them on nothing more then what sex they are.

No not at all, each gender has a different upper hand. Men can be weary of women who may bring them to court for exaggerated experiences and women can be afraid of men that may rape and kill them.

I struggle with fear of men due to trauma BUT I also am working extremely hard to realize that it’s NOT all men. I have a loving partner now, great coworkers, great interactions with strangers. I think that there are bad people who do bad things and that isn’t defined by gender. I taught myself to fear as a protection mechanism but it didn’t help me heal. We all need to do a better job creating safety for everyone.
