"#MeToo is over if we don’t listen to ‘imperfect victims’ like Amber Heard"; Gross article denies Men can be victims of abuse & encourages people to never believe Men. Individuals such as this are why so many Men feel uncomfortable about opening up or seeking support.

If it takes this much pain & suffering for someone as wealthy/famous as Johnny Depp to get justice, imagine the amount of struggling the average man goes through in a False Accusation

If they really want such quotas to be met, they should develop prefabricated buildings which can be erected by machines controlled from air-conditioned offices.

Good!

It's about time they affirmative action women into dangerous jobs!

Why does society have to encourage women to do something they are obviously uninterested in participating in? Aren't there enough men applying for those positions?

Equality does not mean numeric equality in every specific occupation, but a more fundamental equality in overall quality of life. If you like, equality is the achievement of Maslow's hierarchy of needs for every individual in society.

It's contemptible that society pushes equality for women in specific areas they aren't even interested in, whilst ignoring facilitating everyone with even the lowest level of Maslow's hierarchy.

The education system first needs to be overhauled to encourage everyone to understand and pursue Maslows hierarchy of needs as priority.

Are men really more "interested" in working in construction sites? Honestly the people I know did it because it was the job available at the time.

I'm also against forcing exact 50-50 equality in every occupation, but I think it's good to encourage women to enter traditionally male jobs. And the same for men in traditionally female jobs.

Also, for a change, I appreciate that we are talking about women in construction jobs, instead of prestige positions like big company CEOs.

Yet you don't have to "encourage" men into construction jobs, unlike women apparently, so it seems like a better fit with the male mindset.

To be clear, I agree with you that on average each gender has some innate preferences. But the line between what is freely chosen and what is expected by society is very blurry. Despite being a man, working in construction has no appeal to me whatsoever. But, if I needed a job and the only available options were to work in construction or to be a house cleaner, I can easily see myself choose the first one due to social pressure.

The line between what is freely chosen and what is expected by society is blurred even more by people not being given a free choice in occupation these days: to live (rather than just exist in poverty) you must get a job and competition is so fierce that the chances are you will not get your choice of occupation unless it coincides with a deficit of applicants, or quotas are used; even then, many people will choose a job that pays the most which, all things being equal is not a completely free choice as it is dependent on external factors.

It's tragic that civilisation has yet to focus on the needs of each individual (as suggested by Maslow's hierarchy of needs): nothing has really changed from the times of Dickens and Oliver Twist asking "Please sir, can I have some more?"

I don't think it is just because it was the "job available" but partly because it pays well at a starting wage. A lot of people hate their job, but you can hate it a little less if it pays more. I took a CNC job just because it paid more, no experience, no knowledge.

Equality does not mean numeric equality in every specific occupation,

As near as I can tell, feminist 'equality' means more women than men, up to 100% women.

No F@&k that

I want equal representation in all the miserable jobs out there. Construction, waste management, mining, forestry. Anything with chemicals or mechanical systems. It will bridge the earnings gap because finally women will earn equally.

"Men are physically stronger than women so they should be the ones doing the dangerous jobs" "Women should be encouraged to do said dangerous jobs because equality" Pick a damn lane already

I’d love to put up my feet while women do the dirty work. Viva equality.

[–]Daniel_Molloy 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Women don’t want this kind of equality. Just doctors and lawyers and ceo jobs.
