Just another rant. Ignore if you're looking for substance.
It's been 16 months since she walked. No kids. No SAH-anything, two well-paid professional careers on independent paths. No domestic violence, no drug or alcohol issues.
All responsibility for our entire life was dropped in my lap as a result of hearing 1.
I sold the house, and dealt with every bit of work to make that happen while paying for everything involved (goodbye equity).
I dealt with all the equipment and contents of the small ranch and house (minus, of course, what she demanded).
I took it as she made demands for all furniture, and half of the value of everything else I alone bought, paid for, and maintained or was allowed to keep (A desk chair, a computer, some ski gear, a beater truck and trailer, and a tractor).
I continue to pay more than 50 percent of my take home, all the taxes, and any other demand the ex and her shitbird attorney can gin up.
I had to move to another state to be able to afford rent, and when I tried to roll the tiny bit of equity I had left into a small fixer house, I was again held up for 100K to get her to sign a quit claim -- on the house I was buying.
She's faked income records, lied on all court declarations, not bothered to comply with discovery requests. I have had to subpoena her taxes and income records to get a view of what she makes to even attempt to send a settlement offer. The courts couldn't give a shit to examine the lies; my lawyer simply responds with "we have no leverage."
She's rolled out internet outages, dead grandmothers (she's had no grandmothers since 2018), broken down cars (the brand new pickup she demanded) and any other excuse to delay or postpone court appearances.
The list could go on, but in the end, I just needed this to end so I could know what I was going to have to continue to pay, and whether I was ever going to be able to retire.
Trial was supposed to be May 16. At the last minute, she was granted a continuance because she had exams (yes. before walking and filing, she spent 6 months leaving her job, spending a lot of both of our money signing up for a master's degree, and starting her own "business." Of course, those are covers for maximum support. Zero income? I get to pay). Nevermind the fact that exams tend to be on the calendar in the day-one syllabus. Can't be avoided. Continuance granted.
Bam. Another two months of maximum spousal support.
Today, another deadline blew past to submit income information (mine, btw, was submitted completely, on time, and organized for easy use 8 months ago), and suddenly her attorney is in the hospital for an extended emergency.
A. I'm not buying this shit. Cry wolf once too often, and I don't give a shit if you have a i-beam sticking out of your chest, you're lying.
B. Godammit. Anyone else smelling another multimonth continuance while she shops for another attorney that I get to pay for?
And the whole time, my jellyfish of a lawyer: "We have no leverage."
Divorce is a $60B yearly industry, and these parasites have no problem milking every last cent out of participants.
Fuck the system, fuck my ex, fuck both of our lawyers, and fuck the judge in my case, in particular.
I don't feel better, but that is at least off my chest.
Thanks for letting me rant.
