As the article says, more women initiate DV, so blaming it on the patriarchy doesn’t hold up and it’s great to see the actual causes of DV addressed. One problem with blaming the patriarchy is it means the real influences go unaddressed.

What I will add is we don’t live in a patriarchy. Any argument blaming the patriarchy is therefore an argument based on a false premise and should be dismissed out hand, full stop. It’s like debating an issue that blames the boogeyman.

When feminists and SJWs make an argument based on patriarchy theory, we shouldn’t debate them, we should just keep pointing out we don’t live in a patriarchy. Once we accept a debate based on a false premise in a sense they’ve already won, because we are conceding to them the false premise.

The modern "patriarchy" is basically "the devil", they need someone/something to blame, otherwise they have to accept responsibility.

Agreed. Women deserve advantages because women are oppressed. Who oppressed women: the patriarchy.

The fact we don’t live in a patriarchy and the fact women are privileged, not oppressed, is irrelevant. It’s an emotional argument, not a rational one.

Even Taylor swift thinks she’s oppressed

And sadly many of the woke crowd would agree with her.

Patriarchy is like Santa Claus or the tooth fairy, it doesn't exist (and never existed as many think the way it was).

[–]weirdornxtlvl 21 points22 points23 points 4 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

"Patriarchy" is designed and is influenced by women. Everything in a patriarchy is what a woman finds attractive in a man. A provider, protector, a man who never complains, a man who never shows emotions, a man who gives concessions, a man who treats women special "cuz weak". A patriarchy is a matriarchy in disguise.

At one point, the patriarchy was a patriarchy (down vote me all you like, but there used to be a lot, too much imho, privilege to being a man).

But we're way past that these days and, 100%, the real deep state is the matriarchy running the US.

It's not that simple, there are no simple answers. That isn't how reality works. Even the historical, literal patriarchies, in which the name of the child was handed down from the name of the man, were born from the negotiated socialization of men and women. The main issue now had is that women on average due to the paranoia derived from their neuroticism, have begun to see the benefits of risk taking behaviors of men on average, while wanting to renegotiate gaining the benefits of this risk taking behavior and attempting to be absolved of any potential consequences. "They" are angry that men want anything in return for their enslavement, when the original point of marriage was that you were each others slave, it wasn't him and her, you and I, but them and us. Now it's her and hers. To put it bluntly there are multiple reasons that men tend to fall into the majority of the high and low end of any measurement. Your largely dismissing just how common it was for any and everyone to be living a miserable life with little to no political power while Autocrats dined on fine meals and wines from their "ivory towers". Its a classic example of "Be careful what you wish for".

Tell me about this 'privilege'.

Getting drafted or being forced to work in a job with tons, and tons of health risks doesn't sound like a privilege to me...

I said this in another thread on the sub and was downvoted to Hell but I stand by it -

The thing with this Depp Heard trial is - when it is all said and done, they are going to make excuses for Heard.

There are clickbait articles and videos out there. Listen carefully, Heard is in the wrong here. Depp should win. I repeat, Heard is wrong. BUT

There are videos and articles out there exaggerating things about the court proceedings. Heard is wrong, BUT we can see that without these exxagerated videos and articles. The problem with them is - when Depp wins, they will be used to diminish the victory and what it represents.

This kind of thing already happens. Women behave badly a lot of the time. They have actions that are bad or gross but get a pass because they are a woman. If you acknowledge these behaviors - they call you an incel, tell you that you have a small penis, etc. All because they want to continue the behavior without judgement and they don't want the behavior on the radar.

The same thing will happen with this case. It is shedding light on certain behavior and taking powerful tools away from women. So they are going to say that Heard didn't get a fair deal and weaponize certain things to diminish and take away from what Depp's win will mean.
