Ummm. Which University and program are you part of? and has your supervisor and institutional review board reviewed and signed off on your project?

You have some issues with your premise, and the blasé attitude you have written with this post leads me to believe you have a specific agenda (and therefore should ‘not’ be conducting this research) or are a troll.

Not to mention the methodological issues with your proposed method if collecting data.

Well you could decide which topic you're going for for one thing. As far as I can see incels seem to be more the victim of state sanctioned hate than perpetrators of it. Also before you decide on a topic for a dissertation you should probably have at least an absolute minimal understanding of the terms to avoid embarrassments like equating two more or less opposite things, surely?

Or is it not too late to change the topic altogether? It's a political hot potato. If you research the topic you'll likely end up having to choose between lying and offending your superiors. That's a lot of hassle and pressure you don't need.

The main hate group leading to an increase in "misogynistic crimes" is probably feminism. Unlike incels they have considerable political power. Really incels are a joke and the idea that they're dominating anything at all is silly. But feminists are a very powerful global lobby that's promoting a sex war between men and women for over a century now. Young men are sick of it. All their lives they've heard feminists demonizing them and attacking them ostensibly for stuff other people did centuries before they were born.

So this is a major industrial nation where a super majority of young men now feel bad about women because of the actions of the feminist movement. While South Korea is ahead of the game the same results can be seen to some extent in many other advanced democratic countries. Therefore if you really want to discuss hate movements on-line leading to crimes against women then the hate movement most responsible is feminism.

Incels are simply irrelevant as a political force.

But if you try to say that in a dissertation your career is over before it begins of course.

We get a lot of researchers here wanting to study incels.

I am opposed to any study of 'incels' unless there is a clear definition. Without a clear definition, any attempt to study 'incels' will be politically, or ideologically biased. You've already associated 'incels' with misogyny and hate crimes, and called it an ideology.

If your definition of 'incel' is someone who calls themselves an 'incel', but there is no clear definition, then what is that person actually saying? Do they mean the same thing as someone else who calls themselves an 'incel'.

Studying a group of people as a political/ideological group without a good grounding in the psychological/sociological background is an indication of motivated research. I've seen this a lot with "men's rights". There's a lot of research of "men's rights" as a political/ideological group, but near zero research about men's human rights. Then the research typically find that MRAs 'have a victim narrative', because they haven't considered men's actual victimisation.

I am now asking you directly to include these issues in your final dissertation.

Use specific non-manipulated terms that you've laid out and defined. Substantiate your hypothesis, your answer is only worth as much as your question. Its difficult to point towards a group given your and others conflation of incel and hate groups, the relation is correlative not causal, and the term has been intentionally manipulated and generalized to a point of meaninglessness. Don't assume a conclusion that's not how the scientific method works. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Confirmation_bias A proper way of approaching this is to define incels, ask a question(hypothesis) and substantiate(experimentation) your conclusion.

Incels are males, who do indeed experience online hate from groups such as feminists, but this hate against males is misandry, not misogyny.

It appears to me you are attempting to twist the issue. You don’t have a study of inquiry in mind, you have an agenda. That’s my insight.

If you think "incels" and "online hate group" are interchangeable, that's a bit muddled.

Additionally, since "hate crimes" have existed before the Internet for many decades, I think you'd be hard-pressed to say that online groups lead to such crimes.
