"Today in my English class, my teacher was discussing a novel that we’re reading (on our own time). I’m a high school student who will graduate next year, and my class is reading this novel that has a lot of different topics within it. We had to do this quick 10 minute assignment about the book in class and then we turned it in, the questions on the assignment were full of stuff like “True or False: loneliness is the worst emotion, true or false: women need more friends than men, true or false: if there was a death penalty for criminals, there would be less murderers” etc. It was basically a bunch of true or false questions that you’d answer with your opinion, and all these questions were based on topics in the book. Anyways, one of the questions was “In modern society, women are treated by men as equals and not as objects”. I recently stopped being a libfem and I recently found this sub and agree with some of the points here. I’ve really opened my eyes this year. For that statement, I put false, because women are absolutely still not treated equally. All the disgusting fetish and abuse porn subs here is already enough proof. And then when we all turned in our assignments, my teacher had us do an activity so we could all talk about our opinions. He would say “Ok so one of the questions was loneliness is the worst emotion, if you think True then go on the left side of the room and if you think False then go on the right side” and then we got to talk about our opinions. Then he got to the “Women are treated equally by men and not as objects” question. If you thought true, you had to go to the left and if you thought false, you’d go to the right. I went to the right, and shockingly I was literally the only girl there, there was like 4 guys with me and EVERYONE else in the classroom went to the “True” side (the left side) including multiple girls. They all said “we are treated equally, we get to work” even though the teacher said “BY MEN” not by law. And when the teacher pointed it out, one of the girls said “Men get objectified too” and the teacher said “give me an example of how men are objectified in society” and she went quiet. It just frustrates me how many people are asleep. HELLO??? Are you REALLY gonna say women are treated equally by men? Really? When sex traffic victims are 99% women? When abortion was banned in some statues? When 98% of rape victims are women? When in multiple countries men can have multiple wives but women can’t have multiple husbands? When in multiple countries many little girls are forced to marry old men? Are you serious?? And not only that, but multiple disabled women, mentally ill women, autistic women, women of color, and lesbian/bisexual women are fetishized by men. There are multiple porn videos of men turning lesbians straight, and it is a common thing for men to want lesbians. Women of color are RIDICULOUSLY fetishized in the media, there’s multiple porn vids about men brutally screwing women of color from every background. And there’s also many videos about men fetishizing teenage girls. And don’t get me started on how bad disabled women are treated by men. I’ve heard so many stories from women in wheelchairs saying that men would make “jokes” like “oh then you can’t run away from me ;)” and stuff, I’ve seen multiple autistic women and mentally ill women getting fetishized and called “toys” by men. Honestly, how DARE anyone say women are treated equally?? I am NOT being overdramatic. Libfem ideology such as what I heard today puts women in DANGER. Women can’t even walk home without being terrified of being raped and killed but sure, men TOTALLY see women as equal 😐. Denying the truth prevents people from taking it seriously enough to find a solution. People act like I have no idea what I’m talking about or that I’m some idiot. Last time I checked, I’ve been researching this stuff for so long. I’ve read multiple science books and I teach myself many things, for example Im teaching myself a language and an instrument and am doing well at both. I’m planning to be a scientist someday, and I study psychology like crazy. I have studied enough things about the world to know what is going on. I have studied enough things to learn how to think for myself. “Not all men” Yes it’s not all men. But it’s all women. All women who go through this shit. All women who are in danger everyday. All women who have been oppressed in the past or will be in the future. “Not all men” Yes, it’s not 100% of men. It’s not every single man in the world. But it’s enough. Enough where this is still a serious problem. Enough where women still can’t feel safe when they’re just existing.
