I've been an avid video gamer most of my life, like most men I have a great passion for them.
But last year I got bored with it, and also realized that it was giving me more stress than joy, so I took a break from gaming. Then I had a spiritual development, and decided to stop playing altogether.
Until yesterday my favorite game got an update so I got curious and played a few games. Within a few hours I could see a huge change in my mood, my thinking went from balanced to nervous and upset on just about anything. When I realized this I uninstalled the game, but found myself craving for it.
Based on this experience I can say that video games are in fact an addiction, something my mother told me my entire life and refused to believe. And that the damage it does to my mind and spirit are quite severe.
Yet other than a few age restrictions there is zero effort from society to do something about this, unlike alcohol and drugs. I see it in young men today, who start gaming as soon as they're old enough to hold a tablet or smartphone, and then upgrade to the online scene. One can only imagine the damage this does to their brain structure.
