Did you hear that "women were more likely to be hired in blind auditions for orchestras"? Well, the original paper stated "the effect is not statistically significant".

I'm all for blind auditions. Let true merit work for itself, not bias against women, men, whites, people of color, etc. Same thing goes for bias for the ones the judges know.

The left used to push hard for blind auditions and no-name resumes, but did away with them once they realized it led to less women and minorities being chosen.

Equality of opportunity isn’t enough now. In the year of Our Kendi 2022, not being ‘anti-racist’ (Kendi details the level of self-flagellation necessary in order to be an anti-racist) is essentially the same being a KKK member.

Similarly, if you’re not in favour of tilting the decks overwhelmingly in favour of groups deemed ‘worthy’ (we all understand the intersectional pyramid well enough to know who these groups are instinctively now) then you’re essentially a basement-dwelling troglodyte who wants women back in the kitchen. And probably a homophobe to boot…

Yeah it sucks not only because they're discriminating against people, but also because they're holding back progress in fields like science and medicine.

For example, if we find a cure for cancer, it'll happen many years later than it would have it everyone used merit based hiring.

One should consider that artificial intelligence algorithms are made by biased individuals and and can be biased themselves when they are created.

[–]tiger_woods_is_goat 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Okay but not sure what that has to do with my comment

[–]Aggravating_End_70101 points 3 years ago [recovered] (1 child) | Copy Link

It has everything to do with your comment because you're insinuating that artificial intelligence cannot have biases.

[–]tiger_woods_is_goat 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I never said anything about AI.

Blind auditions are done by having a wall or something in between the person doing the judging and the person auditioning so they can't see who's performing. No-name resumes are reviewed by a hiring manager. Where did you get AI from?

[–]duhhhh 96 points97 points98 points 3 years ago (11 children) | Copy Link

Three years after that article they decided it was statistically significant because not enough women and minorities were being hired under blind auditions.

https://www.nytimes.com/2020/07/16/arts/music/blind-auditions-orchestras-race.html

Blind auditions don't allow woke hiring practices.

Funny how it’s those that claim the moral and woke high ground tend to be the very ones who advocate sexism and racism.

[–]Angryasfk 30 points31 points32 points 3 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Woke means racism and sexism. It’s purely about judging people solely on those grounds. The purest definition of racist and sexist.

[–]63daddy 9 points10 points11 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Indeed, but they deny this obvious fact.

[–]vwatchrepair 9 points10 points11 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Woke mentality is simply "it's ok when WE do it."

[–]accidental_me 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Intersectional femininism, in particular.

[–]Angryasfk 7 points8 points9 points 3 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Feminism is source of all of it. It was a feminist who started “whiteness studies” which is based on the sort of “analysis” that feminists use to claim wealthy white women are oppressed by working class men.

It’s clear that this is done to draw racial issues into a feminist paradigm. And to give the superficial impression that feminism wasn’t mostly about promoting the interests of upper middle class women.

Wait how do they do that?

[–]Angryasfk 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It started in the late ‘80’s. She made the comment about CD shops being filled with your type of music (odd given how much popular music derives from black American origins), and if you want to speak to the “person in charge” it will be someone who “looks like you” and so on and so on. Hence white people (in the US anyway - they were 80% of the population at the time) have all this “unearned privilege”. This is the same “analysis” that says men are privileged as most of the CEOs and legislators are men, and hence a working class stiff is “privileged” and a well off white woman is “oppressed”.

[–]Soda_BoBomb 2 points3 points4 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

They will and have said before that meritocracy is racist.

[–]Forcetobereckonedwit 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah, funny😐

Truth. No one is more sexist and will make things about sex quicker than a SJW. Like no ne uses the "because woman" stuff more then a feminist or says what an entire sex is/will do (men) more than them. Feminism loves to scream about equality and all that but their entire movement is literally based off of separating men and women in every area they can. And ironically, the only time it's separated is to make women look like the biggest victim ever, or men the the biggest assholes collectively. You will never see them talk about anything where men are disadvantaged, despite screaming non stop "feminism if for men too"

If feminism was for men too, when men say they are 80% of violent crime victims, the homeless etc, we would not be met back with "but yeah, women are sexually assaulted more"... which fucking counts in violent crime stats. This is not how someone who is fair or into equality thinks. That's how someone who is self centered thinks, about only what related to themselves.

Imagine two houses on fire, one on fire 4 times more than the other, so the fire department only focuses on the house with a smaller while letting the other one continue to burn and cause damage to the point of no return, that's how feminism views equality when they are not the primary victim of a particular stat. They would much rather save their own house than both houses, even when they can save both houses. Feminism is so self centered it breeds hate for anyone unlike them, just like any other grouping of people. It's why we at this sub hate feminism, we hate that group of people, but it's not the entire female gender, it's just the particular people with a particular mindset, not genitals. So we are not immune from it either, the difference is we hate a mind set, they hate a set of people. Hating an idea is a lot more reasonable and mature (and on point) than being a people hating scum bag.

Your points are essentially, correctly saying correlation does not prove cause-effect. There are many reasons why the proportion of women in orchestras has increased and it’s not proof the reason there were fewer was due to discrimination.

I’ll add an additional example: Far fewer men are going into music programs. In part because more women are going to college and in part because young men know they can’t pay off huge college loans and support a family on a musician’s salary.

Bottom line: changing demographics are not proof of discrimination.

[–]Agitated_Month9986 12 points13 points14 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I studied musich 8 years in germany, the distribution between men and woman were about equal 65% men and the rest woman.

Insteuments such as violin , cello or voices were highly dominated by woman.

If you ever take ur time and listen to an orchestras, you will observe a very uneven distribution between sexes and instruments.

There are plenty of dynamics behind this distribution, but social economics play a very little role for this phenomenon.

overall, women did worse in the blinded auditions.

Interesting.

[–]ThisCantBeForReel1 points 3 years ago [recovered] (7 children) | Copy Link

Point for the men! Huzzah! What does this make the score again in the ongoing gender war?

Oh uhhh, I mean, quest for mens rights.

[–]rm-rd[S] 16 points17 points18 points 3 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

It's just worth remembering that the people who oppose men's rights are either dumber or more disingenuous than climate change deniers.

[–]ThisCantBeForReel1 points 3 years ago [recovered] (5 children) | Copy Link

I love mens rights. I'm very supportive. But 'women aren't even that good at orchestra' is not mens rights. It's next level petty BS from people that just want to bicker about women and do nothing for men.

[–]Angryasfk 14 points15 points16 points 3 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Really? I see it as overturning more feminist lies. And it’s their lies that are amongst the biggest obstacles we face.

[–]ThisCantBeForReel1 points 3 years ago [recovered] (3 children) | Copy Link

Lol. Yeah. I'd say blind auditions for orchestras really is the biggest issue men face. Agreed.

[–]TrilIias 6 points7 points8 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The reason why this matters is that feminists have been using this study for years as if it was somehow proof that women are discriminated against in the orchestra. Of course, they haven't only done this with orchestras, there are B.S. papers for just about every industry that claim to find proof of discrimination against women in said industries.

This is intended to support the popular narrative that women are oppressed, even today, and men are privileged. How much progress do you expect to make in advancing men's rights while this remains the popular narrative? How do you expect to change public opinion without pointing out the flaws in the research that has been used to prop up the feminist narrative?

[–]Angryasfk 7 points8 points9 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Right. So let feminists lies that women are discriminated against stand even when we can prove they’re no true then.

And where does that lead? Putting in quotas and putting handicaps on men to greatly reduce their chances of getting a job to make up for false claims of women being discriminated against.

This isn’t a “bad woman of the day” post.
