It's really about how two professional people didn't quite get along in their private life. I don't see a reason why the writer needs to use words like "toxic", or involve masculinity.

[–]Angryasfk 24 points25 points26 points 3 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

And it’s rubbish, like those claims made by a certain female tennis star who retired recently. These multimillionaire women, married to multimillionaire men, are not “forced to labour doing the housework” so their men can “enjoy themselves in their careers”. Some women (certainly politicians’ wives) may do that, but not these women. They have more than enough money to hire housekeepers, cleaners, full time chefs, nanny’s for the kids - you name it. Now perhaps they’d prefer to do this stuff themselves. Well good for them. But it is a choice, just as it’s a choice if the man they’re married to wants to give away their business and sport and do the same.

And how does this author account for single guys who are top sports stars or business executives? They don’t have some “wife” to act as a free housekeeper as he likens it.

This shite may have had some validity 40 odd years ago. But it’s ridiculous now.

[–][deleted] 10 points11 points12 points 3 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

I was being generous. Even if Tom Brady is a dick at home, then it's just a personal issue. There's no reason to drag toxic masculinity into this. And the article does not give a neutral and balanced view on their private lives, so we can't even determine who's at fault in their failed marriage.

[–]Angryasfk 9 points10 points11 points 3 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Not so sure that their marriage has failed, although they doubtless have “issues”. Had a look on their Wikipedia pages: in there was this little anecdote: “She and her family adhere to a primarily plant-based diet developed by their personal chef Allen Campbell”!

Yep, she’s a “housework drudge” to enable his sports career: in between photo shoots she has to put in the orders to their personal chef, and moan about the poor job “the help” do around the house.

I mean do the idiots who write these sort of articles have any sense of proportion at all? Or any sense of how utterly stupid they are?

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 3 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

They're getting a divorce, so that means their marriage has failed.

[–]Angryasfk 5 points6 points7 points 3 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Well they’ve yet to update the Wikipedia page. Buy in any case, why shouldn’t he continue to play in that case? To please his soon to be ex-wife?

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

why shouldn’t he continue to play in that case?

I have no opinion on what either one of them should be doing.

[–]Angryasfk 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Nor do I. But the “POC” (his terms) who wrote this garbage seems to think that he shouldn’t play because SHE wants him to be more “present”. Sorry love, but you married an elite athlete: that’s what they do. And isn’t there something “obsessive” about her “plant based diet” and doubtless all the other things she’s done to further her modelling career?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Perhaps, but it's possible that he made a promise to retire and spend more time with the kids. I can't judge the situation based on incomplete hearsay.

[–]Angryasfk 4 points5 points6 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

He might have done. And perhaps that’s why she’s leaving him. But has she finished her modelling career? Either way it’s nothing to do with men being the “provider”, and everything to do with him being at the top of what he does and finding it hard to just leave it. The same thing happened to Serena Williams (and I know we have to be careful what we say about her). She was the best woman in the world at what she did for quite a few years, and kept playing even when it was clear that she was losing her edge. I also refuse to believe that she has all this labour of “maintaining the household”. This is clearly the “in trope” of feminists and their fellow travellers.

[–]JoeSmith1907 21 points22 points23 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

But using toxic masculinity is the whole point of the article. If you are successful and motivated and work hard, and something goes wrong in your life it's because you've displaying toxic masculinity. If you're unsuccessful and unmotivated and are a slacker and nothing happens in your life, then you're a victim of toxic masculinity.

I had another look and saw the comments about Ali. Apparently the author didn’t bother to find out that Ali’s Nassau comeback fight (and perhaps his previous one against Larry Homes) was driven by the fact that he’d been fleeced by his manager and needed money fast! The last fight was certainly due to financial necessity, not some “toxic masculinity” ego trip.

Perhaps the guy’ mother has gone to “QANON” because she knows the lies and falsehoods her own son writes!

[–]Angryasfk 23 points24 points25 points 3 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

What a load of pompous tripe. Does anyone think he would have been married to that “multimillionaire Brazilian fashion model” if he’d not been an NFL star? I mean seriously! Also does anyone seriously think that she does much of the housework? If she does it’s through choice.

And the ultimate issue is this: the guy’s an elite sport star in a very competitive code. Is anyone dim enough to think that you get to that level without such total commitment to training and the game? Or that you get to be a CEO (unless you’re the child of the main shareholder) without that?

I’m also sure you don’t get to be a multimillionaire fashion model without putting everything into your career too. And to pretend that she’s home doing the vacuuming, polishing the floors, and otherwise sacrificing her career so he can be devoted to NFL is utterly ridiculous.

[–]JoeSmith1907 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Right. That's why the article makes no sense. If he hadn't been driven to be an NFL qb she never would have looked at him twice. If she thought he wouldn't be able to maintain a millionaire lifestyle she probably would have been long gone before she'd even let a relationship get underway. Now because of what he's done she'll get tens of millions of dollars in the property settlement, and he won't have to stay in a homeless shelter after the divorce. The article also doesn't make sense for another reason. If she wants him to be home, there's no point in divorcing him.

Meanwhile he's not going to be sleeping alone unless he wants to. She on the other hand, isn't going be dating Bob from accounting, or a mechanic, or a math teacher etc. She's probably only going to be looking at the top .01% of the guys, but they're either already taken or they're looking for someone younger and without kids. So she might be replacing Tom Brady with online dating.

[–]Angryasfk 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Exactly. She’s a top fashion model. She’s not the “6 trying for the 10” we keep hearing about with Tinder. Christie Brinkley hasn’t wanted for male company over her life either. I don’t doubt her combination of looks and money will get attention, and she may already have something lined up for all we know.

The most these women will do is sleep with their PT, the way Madonna did. I’ve not heard of many of these women marrying Joe Blow the carpenter. Giselle was already a top model when she met him, and he was already an NFL star (and even if he charged under the odds for the team’s benefit he is still the league’s best paid player, and he’d have been a big earner by then). What does the author of the sludge expect, him to quit because he’s hooked up with a top model? He’d (the POS male feminist writer) scream about her giving up her career, so why should Brady or any other guy do that? Whatever’s going on here is strictly their issue. And has nothing to do with “male provider roles” much less “toxic masculinity”. It’s as fake as pretending that a woman who has a personal chef prepare a strictly plant based diet (perhaps that’s the real issue) is somehow doing all the domestic drudgery so he can “live football”. The guy who wrote this is a woke joke!

[–]_BlueShark87 15 points16 points17 points 3 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Warning: Rant Ahead Wow. I don’t fucking care if they think I’m selfish. As far as I’m concerned this article was the final nail in the coffin. I’m fully done with society and I’ll watch it burn to the ground with a smile on my face. I tried reasoning with them. I even went into twoX and commented about the 1/6 sexual assault stats being wrong. I gave them stats from RAINN and they don’t care. One in 500 or more? Nah 1/6. I’m so done with society. What’s that African proverb we like so much here? A child that is not embraced by their village will burn it down to feel it’s warmth?

[–]Cbd_7ohm 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Lol how is a buzzfeed article the final straw? Have you not looked at what is going on in the real world?

[–]Woozuki 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You don't need to burn it and leave. All you must do is trascend them.

Go MGTOW.

Embrace men!

[–]TRexDale08 -2 points-1 points0 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Is leaving society because of TwoX and buzz feed practical though? Are people in everyday life treating you badly? Or is it just the things you actively seek out on the internet that make you angry?

[–]Dr_Hesp 4 points5 points6 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That shit was absolutely written by someone who has zero knowledge of real masculinity. Men thrive off competition. Even in our friendships, we're constantly pushing ourselves and friends to do better. That's how this amazing world (albeit not perfect) was built. The same world that these feminists and simps (another word for 'lowest form of male') benefit from. They don't realize that they're not pushing away bad men, they're pushing away the good men that protect them.

Let these bottom feeders criticize good men all they want. Sooner or later they'll be begging for the return of the true form of masculinity in men. Usually occurs when shit hits the fan and problems need solving.

[–]solar-garlic1776 4 points5 points6 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

What this article does without even knowing it is show that for men we must become, we must push/grind/outwork everyone to achieve personal goals/greatness. Contrast that with Giselle, she was blessed with beauty and that's it.

Another thing this article fails to even mention yet alone possibly comprehend, men (for the most part) are concerned about their legacy. For most it's having child but for people like Brady it's about being the one that everyone is compared to. Think about it, once Brady retires, it's how does this QB or that compare to Brady. Are we having that same convo about Giselle, FUCK NO.

[–]countrymace 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

It’s interesting how this article takes this issue and frames it as “man harms wife.”

To the extent that society pushes men to be Tom Brady (the ultimate provider, the top in his field), the ones it harms the most is the men. This mentality is fine for some who actually will achieve astronomical success. People who do that make a knowing trade- a life, for success. It’s a gamble that they’ll live long enough to enjoy the benefits of their success and that those benefits will be worth the cost. This is a risky trade for a lot of people. I’m saying this as an attorney who could have made more money and will soon be transitioning out of legal work entirely even though my new business won’t net as much as money as legal work. At a certain point, what can you buy that’s better than your time?

On an individual level, Tom Brady made a bet that has paid off in his eyes. His family knew the terms of that bet. He’s not a martyr, and he isn’t doing this to provide for his family. He also isn’t a villain either: he’s just someone who puts his career first. That’s what he values most, and his wife shouldn’t be surprised by that. If she no longer likes the terms of the bet, she can leave. It’s not like she won’t be more than repaid for the personal cost of his career. If she wanted a family man, then she should have married one.

To go after a career with everything you have is a valid gamble. But it doesn’t pay out for 99% of people. Figure out how much time and effort it will take to have a secure and comfortable life and calibrate your ambitions accordingly. Don’t sacrifice the best parts of life to fulfill societal expectations about gender and career success/ salary.

[–]Angryasfk 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

He was already well into his career when they met. It’s not as if they were always together and she suddenly became a football widow. And this nonsense of her doing this domestic labour is ridiculous and an insult to anyone who really does this stuff.

[–]countrymace 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Yeah, you can’t say a deal was unfair when you knew the terms when you signed. That’s the sacrifice that is required to reach that level.

[–]Angryasfk 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Absolutely and he was definitely doing all this the entire time they’ve been together. She wouldn’t just leave him because he’s trying for one more season - there’d have to be more to it. And that assumes they really divorce. The link was only to a newspaper article claiming “sources” told them. It sounds like they’ve done this before too.

Certainly nothing to do with “toxic masculinity”.

[–]AbsurdiBear -1 points0 points1 point 3 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I mean, even if it's Buzzfeed, I kinda agree with the purpose of this.

Brady is an incredible competitor and a legend in American Football, but that doesn't take away the fact that he is an absent father/husband.

Earlier today I saw a post of a Doctor thanking his wife for her patience since they have been dating since he entered medschool. But when he thanked her for being a good mother, he refered to their kids as hers.

Men need to be held accountable for fatherhood.

I would personally be pissed after supporting my partner through a legacy in sports history until retirement, just for him/her to change his/her mind at the last moment... twice.

[–]tiger_woods_is_goat 5 points6 points7 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Fatherhood is important. Everything about the way they communicate this point is ridiculous.

And LOL at them making it sound like Giselle was at home scrubbing the floors and taking care of the kids by herself. They had nannies and maids on staff full time.

[–]Angryasfk 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

But the “POC” (more “POS” surely - and he’s of very little colour if the picture is anything to go by) claimed this was “toxic masculinity” and the “out of date provider role”! Brady is not some bloke who works all day at the car factory, and then comes home, cracks open a beer and demands to know when his dinner will be on the table whilst he watches the game on TV.

He’s an elite sports star. The best at what he does (arguably anyway). That requires massive dedication even if you have exceptional talent and great genetic luck! And it is not easy to simply walk away from. And it’s not a “man thing” either. Take Serena Williams. She was at the top of her sport for more than a decade. And she too found it hard to give it away. She hasn’t made a Grand Slam final since 2019, and hasn’t won one since the Australian Open at the start of 2017! She arguably should have retired in 2020. And even though she’d clearly lost her edge by this year, she still had problems giving it away and imagined that she wouldn’t have had to if she was a man - I can’t think of too many 40+ male Wimbledon champs though!

The guy could be a total douch for all I know. And maybe he broke a promise to her. But her idea of tending to the domestic sphere is something like deciding which colour to paint the wall, or telling the servants they did a lousy job of cleaning, or telling them she’s out to luck (lunch) with the girls and needs to be picked up 3 and make sure they’ve got the kids first, or deciding they’re going on a “plant based diet”. A woman who has a personal chef is not someone who’s forced to do anything much domestically.

And aside from the “cry me a river” over poor rich woman who has to be the one to give instructions to her servants, the author tries to make out a top sports star has trouble quitting because of (drum roll) toxic masculinity, AND this idea that he’s a “provider”. And then he throws in some irrelevant stuff about how he played football until the second year of college. What’s that got to do with it? To “prove” that he’s not anti-football? It sounds more like jealousy from someone who was just Ok to someone who’s exceptional TBH.

Regarding the doctor. He’s an ass. But so are the women who moan on about how they had to “bear and raise his children”. Fatherhood is certainly not taken seriously enough today. But this article doesn’t help.

[–]Huffers1010 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

If it helps, fame sometimes has very limited geographical reach. I've never heard of this guy or his wife.

[–]Angryasfk 4 points5 points6 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Neither had I. But NFL isn’t that big a sport outside the USA except for a few aficionados. One of the things that makes it an all American game.

But seriously, how dumb: being a top player in an elite sport is all down to some “outdated” sense of men being a “provider”? I mean who’s stupid enough to buy this? And he’s married to a multimillionaire model - as if she’s not had similar dedication to her career - exercise, diet, photo shoots…

I’m surprised anyone takes this guy and what he writes seriously if this is a truly representative sample of it.
