Browsing a feminist sub, I came across this article Drugs companies must address ‘chronic neglect’ of women:
Women and girls have been "chronically neglected", said Jayasree K. Iyer, CEO of the Access to Medicine Foundation, which produces an annual report tracking progress made by the pharmaceutical industry on fair access to life-saving drugs.
Poor women, how is this even possible? Patriarchy? But when we look at the actual report, we quickly learn that it focuses only one one area - the Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR). Does it mean that women are chronically neglected compared to men in SRHR? But wait, there is more:
SRHR should be afforded to everyone regardless of gender. However, the Access to Medicine Foundation is focusing on women’s health in this report given the impact of gender inequality on the sexual and reproductive health of women and girls and the need for increased focus and improvements within the space.
Wait, what?? What does it mean the report is focusing only on women's health? You are surely not counting only women's disseases, right?
SRHR-related diseases and health needs in scope of the Index:
Uterine cancer
Ovarian cancer
Breast cancer
Cervical cancer
Oh fuck, you really are counting only women's disseases, are you. You know what? let me help translate your report from feminist speak to a human langue:
1/
Women and girls have been "chronically neglected", said Jayasree K. Iyer,
We only say that women and girls are "chronically neglected" to get more money - we don't really measure those things.
2/
Particularly in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), women’s health services, specifically SRHR services, are often not provided at a level of quality that meets minimum medical and human rights standards.
Particularly in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), women’s health services, specifically SRHR services, are often not prioritized over everyone's needs, which we call human rights violation.
3/
Specific gaps in research and development must be plugged if global goals on the rights of women to reproductive and sexual health care are to be met by 2030, the special report produced alongside the foundation's 2022 Access to Medicine Index in November says.
Only women's health counts. We demand that you redirect all R&D funds to researching women's health.
4/
"Focus should immediately be made on promoting consciousness about female sexual health, developing targeted vaccination strategies and improving access of females to health care services,"
What the fuck you do not understand? Not prioritising women is oppression, you patriarchal pig.
PS: "The report, presented to healthcare suppliers at a workshop by the UN Population Fund". Why am I not surprised to see UN in this.
