Its called feminism. There is no faux or fake.

Thanks for the link, it was an interesting read.

I believe that the various social sciences; psychology, gender studies, sociology, etc. are deeply flawed because they all believe in the blank slate idea, that everything is learned and nothing in our brains is there as a result of genetics and evolution.

Even if that were the case, the blatant dismissal of men's issues would still be wrong. I think the main problems with social sciences are its lack of falsifiable results, its closeness to politics and the power structures of academia. In hard sciences you can usually make more than enough money (often more) in industry, so only people who are actually interested in research will stay in academia. A gender studies graduate can do nothing else except play "Papers, Please" in some HR department, so they have much more incentive to cling to an academic career. Additionally, since social sciences do not produce any actual immediately useful results that could steer resource allocation, it becomes a sort of circlejerk where everyone just tries to sound smart and expand the influence of their own clique.

Yes, absolutely.

Probably the best desc of the social sciences I've ever heard.. Thanks.

Don't forget how God created Humanity

Definitely agree with you

I just want to point out that the vast majority of psychology doesn't believe in that anymore. It's only feminist academics that still cling to that idea.

[–]lumpynose 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

That's good to hear. I knew a woman who was a psychology researcher and had a PhD from Stanford and she believed in the blank slate idea. But this was back in the early 1990s and I have no idea what her beliefs are now.

[–]Maffioze 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Yeah, they gradually moved away from Freud... and shifted more towards nature instead of nurture. I am currently taking a course in personality psychology and they see genetics as more important than culture.

However what you said is still the case in sociology and gender studies and its problematic.

As far as I'm concerned it's no better or no worse than believing the Earth is flat.

He's saying exactly what MRA have been saying all along, byt why does he insist on sying that hetero men kiss each others? That's blatantly false. And why is it a good thing if they do it anyway?

[–]fear_the_future[S] 5 points6 points7 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I think he was just giving counterexamples from his time as a HS coach to dismiss the feminist idea that all hetero men are naturally homophobic. Also, he is researching masculinity, so that kind of thing is not necessarily un-masculine like traditional gender roles dictate.

[–]PactScharp 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

He doesn't disagree that masculinity is naturally homophobic. He very much agrees that this "used to be the case" (which is wrong, it's got nothing to do with masculinity from a psychological standpoint). He just says that "men have improved". And we're supposed to be grateful for this?

"Men are not as bad as the toxic, hateful tyrants of old... men have improved a bit". Wow, such an inclusive & positive idea.

[–]Angryasfk 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Some cultures do that “kissing” stuff: the French do it, and apparently so do the Russians, and the Russians are certainly not very “gay friendly”!

[–]Aspiengineer 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

"The french do it"

Shhhh! don't tell that! I'm french and this is one of the reasons I live in Germany. Now in Germany, it's just as bad, they hug you after seeing you only a couple time, but when I refuse they are not offended because they think it is a cultural thing. If they'd know my country of origin is even touchyer, I'm done!

[–]PactScharp -2 points-1 points0 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Oh great, he calls out his peers, therefore he's men's hero. Except he's not. He still perpetuates a scientifically illeterate idea that masculinity is socially based & is somehow inherently linked with "homophobia". There is no real connection between the two at all... but this is what happens when you promote intersectional theory. It's all just a game of pointing fingers and raising the most "ism's" and "phobia's" possible.
