Social change typically happens in phases.

  1. Identification / Awareness

  2. Mobilizaton

  3. Negotiation / Legislation

Since I joined this sub, whenever the topic of "what else can we do" / "should we do more" came up the answer was:

we are still in the awareness phase

Looking back on the last year(s), I'm not sure that's true anymore. Honestly, I think it is not true anymore.

Men's Issues have mainstream awareness now:

  • Warren Farrell's book got major attention, even informed legislation in Florida

  • Richard Reeves book moved Men's Issues out of the political left's taboo zone

  • Mainstream news channels / newspapers / podcasts discuss the issues affecting men and boys

I don't mean to imply that those discussions are always perfect or anything, but they're happening. I think we should think about whether it might indeed be time to shift gears and get to a new level. This would of course imply getting more organised and starting to work more along the lines of 'classical' activism found in other fields. What that would look like is another question.

What do you think? Are we in a different place compared to 2013 regarding awareness for Men's Issues?
